Requested move[edit]

Because it was called Gold Coast at the time. Punkmorten 19:07, 21 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Well, on one hand, the lead and infobox state that already, but on the other, there are examples to favour that move (e.g. Burkina Faso → Upper Volta at the 1972 Summer Olympics). What do others think? Parutakupiu talk || contribs 19:19, 21 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
The reason I created this stub under "Ghana" was mostly because of the way the {{flagIOC}} set of templates work — using country codes to identify the nation and create the wikilinks. Country codes weren't used in 1952, so "GHA" is the only one we have to refer to all instances of the nation. In 1972, "VOL" was used for Upper Volta, so I was able to use Template:Country IOC alias VOL for those Games, Template:Country IOC alias BUR for 1988 onwards, and put links in the infoboxes to show that relationship. I was able to do a similar thing for British Honduras (HBR) and Belize (BIZ). But Gold Coast is problematic. So is Guyana, which was British Guiana before 1968, but for which we only have "GUY".
I do not want to "invent" a new country code for Gold Coast, nor do I wish to open up the flagIOC template system to make the country name dynamic (as the flags are), so would it be acceptable for Ghana at the 1952 Summer Olympics to be a redirect to Gold Coast at the 1952 Summer Olympics? It's fine for me! Go ahead and redirect but then one has to adjust the lead. Parutakupiu talk || contribs 20:25, 21 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Edit: I now saw it is done ;) Parutakupiu talk || contribs 20:26, 21 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
