Details of career (mainly)[edit]

I have corrected one minor but clear mistake in the article.

There is a further detail which I strongly suspect is wrong. The current Wiki page says that RST was at St Michael's Llandaff with WGHS. The Owain Jones reference quoted in the article places them together in the Hostel at Bangor, and the dates seem wrong (RST left Llandaff 1936, WGHS went there 1940) for meeting at Llandaff. But it's possible that the Jones book is wrong. Can anybody confirm the Llandaff connection e.g. by correcting dates?

The current page asks for a citation re the Vincent Kane interview. I can deal with that; there's a transcript in the Owain Jones book.

When looking through the article, I felt that it could usefully include more details (e.g. dates) of his career. Since I'm no historian, and have access only to the Owain Jones book, I just note details from that book here which I think are worth inclusion in the article.

Follow-up note[edit]

As proposed above, I have now edited the page. Almost all the changes have been taken from the Owain Jones book, now included as a formal reference, to address the "citation needed" request re the Vincent Kane interview.

As I said (24 Jan, above) I'm no historian, and I won't be at all offended if somebody better qualified than I updates or improves on my efforts. One area I haven't changed (except for very minor details) is the bibliography; I don't know any of these books or documents, but the list as it appears doesn't seem very appropriate to an encylopaedia. Need for citations[edit]

I see that a note has appeared in the article saying that more citations are needed. I'm not sure what to do about this, and indeed I wonder to what extent anything can be done. I laid out the main structure and gave many of the details in the article; see my version of 10 Feb 2011, and most of the material in this Talk page. In doing that substantial revision, I worked almost exclusively from the Owain Jones book cited, and almost all the facts come from that book. A trivial way of adding citations would be for me to put references to that book against most of the facts in the article - but repetitions of "reference [1]" don't seem too helpful to me. (I put it in because somebody asked for a specific citation to verify the Vincent Kane interview.)

As I wrote in the "Follow-up note" above, I did (and still do) have doubts about whether most of the sources listed are appropriate - but removing them would *reduce* the number of citations!

One place to start might be the unsupported statement that "Simon had excellent communication skills with children but was somewhat less at ease with adolescents". I wasn't responsible for that, and it looks rather like a very personal viewpoint. Perhaps whoever added that might try to find a citation.
