Wolf of Wall Street appearance

I'm removing the ref to the Wolf of Wall Street soundtrack appearance as it had been entered in the First Recorded Versions section which should contain no references to the Laura Branigan version. A reference elsewhere in the article would be viable: however it should be done with a source.

I've learned that the Wolf of Wall Street soundtrack in fact features the Tozzi original - in fairness to myself the info I deleted didn't specify which version was featured. However I do wish I'd investigated the matter at the time instead of deleting the info. I am of course restoring the info & also noting Tozzi's Gloria being featured in the soundtrack of the Chilean film Gloria with online sources provided.--Cherrylimerickey (talk) 02:34, 22 March 2014 (UTC)

Soft original?

Have you actually listened to Tozzi's version of the song? It is not a soft love ballad. It has the same arrangements as Laura Branigan's version.

I'm not sure what contentious material has been adjusted over the last few years. Listening to the original version of Gloria I'm surprised Laura Branigan would describe it as soft but as that is her quoted impression I think it must remain in the article. I can only assume LB was referencing Tozzi's vocal style and her vocal on the song certainly has a lot more bite. However without an evident quote specifying LB was describing Tozzi's voice as soft I don't think we can speculate in the article that such was indeed the case.--Cherrylimerickey (talk) 22:09, 26 June 2013 (UTC)

Italian lyrics vs. English

Release date

The release date of the single "Gloria" could not have been 4 August 1982, since the single's debut date on the Hot 100 was 10 July 1982. A more likely release date would have been sometime in June 1982 or possibly earlier by a month or a few months. 1979 demo for Laura Branigan?

I've put a "citation needed" tag on the statement "Branigan first sang "Gloria" as a "demo" in 1979" asking for a reliable source. The background given of the recording of Branigan's hit version - which includes a quote from Branigan herself - would indicate she was totally unfamiliar with the song when it was suggested she cut it in 1982. - October 2010

Prominence in Flashdance

"Although Branigan was represented on Flashdance by the track "Imagination," in the film itself "Gloria" is more prominently featured - being the music to which the character played by Sunny Johnson performs her ice-skating routine" Both songs were used in full sequences: Gloria was used for the said ice skating scene, and Imagination was used for one of Alex's dances at the club (where she wore white makeup and progressively shed layers of clothes.) I think one hears the complete song in both instances, and there is little if any dialogue over the music in both instances. Similarity to Physical

I'm omitted the unsourced likening of the Branigan track to Olivia Newton-John's Physical: the riff in the Branigan version of Gloria was featured in the 1979 Tozzi original so it doesn't evidence Physical's influence. It's possible the success of the similarly rhythmed Physical may have factored into the choice of Gloria for Branigan but with no source that is of course total speculation.--Cherrylimerickey (talk) 21:35, 26 June 2013 (UTC)
