This article is written in American English, which has its own spelling conventions (color, defense, traveled) and some terms that are used in it may be different or absent from other varieties of English. According to the relevant style guide, this should not be changed without broad consensus.

"Characteristics" for a planet which doesn't have any[edit]

Since this planet hasn't got a good flamewar yet, how about I start one :^)

I found a section for "characteristics" which just had the very boring (and redundant) statistic of semi-major axis.

It got me thinking about Gliese 876 d and mu Arae d. A lot of the papers published about them deal with the planetary models, and are only slightly less speculative than a good episode of DS9. People seem to be laying off Gliese 436 b, but if that one didn't transit it would be treated as a clone of GJs 876 d; imaginations would be running wild.

Even GJ 436 b hasn't had its composition hammered down in the way of a HD 209458 b; it was touted as Waterworld / HotIceWorld and then it quietly came about that it was too bloated, and was wrapped in gas.

So, to Characteristics, rather than copy-paste the speculations I'd found (and expanded) in GJ 876 d and mu Arae d, I've added an apologia as to why there aren't characteristics, incorporating a signpost over to GJ 436 b. --Zimriel (talk) 04:51, 19 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

DELETED - making an analogy to the anomalous-core planet HD 149026b is getting extremely speculative, particularly because of very different metallicity of the two host stars --User:86.171.72.213 09:26, 23 August 2008 (CST)

This is all true; but my point was that until the inclination is better constrained, this high a mass cannot be ruled out. Either way this planet couldn't survive at this temperature and proximity without a core. Whether it's a small core like Saturn or a disproportionate one like HD 149026 b, we can't tell, but it must be somewhere between them (and I'd bet on the latter). --Zimriel (talk) 20:45, 23 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

HARPS?[edit]

It says this planet was discovered by HARPS, however, I believe only Gliese 581 c & d were discovered by HARPS and the "wobble" of the star. Gliese 581 b was discovered by passing in front of the star (transit). Can anyone confirm this? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 192.12.88.5 (talk) 06:12, 16 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Artist's conception image should be removed[edit]

The artist's conception image should be removed or at least taken out of the planet's infobox and placed as "decoration" in the text of the article. There's nothing encyclopedic (and a lot that's misleading or just fanciful) about this (and most "impression") images. — Aldaron • T/C 23:04, 6 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

There is a "b", a "c" and a "d" but is there an "a"?

Well, technically speaking, yes, It's just that it's the star. All planet designations start at b, and using the a to designate the star is only necessary when there is possible confusion. Modest Genius ^talk 12:22, 21 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
