I was feeling particularly bold today and decided that a merger of girdling and http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Ring_barking&redirect=no was in order. Same process, multiple names. Damage to Xylem Preventing Healing[edit]

The article states, "Healing can only happen when the xylem is not cut into and damaged." This is patently false. If this were true, grafting would not be possible. Girding not girdling[edit]

The term is 'girding a tree'. 'Girdling' is a backformation from girdle. People mishear the term and popularize it on the internet - like here on Wikipedia. 2607:FB91:BD5D:51A4:1E06:40D0:18F1:2958 (talk) 23:02, 7 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
