TALK GIPTON

Block quote

I FOR ONE WHO WAS BROUGHT UP IN GIPTON WOULDN'T CLASS IT AS A NO GO AREA THE AREA IS FINE AND THE TROUBLE THAT WE DO HAVE IS FROM YOUNG HOODIES AS THEY LIKE TO BE CALLED BUT EVEN THAT TO MY KNOWLEDGE IS CONSIDERABLY LESS THEN ANY OTHER COUNCIL ESTATE. IF YOU ASK ME THE WORST PLACE NOW IS HAREHILLS LANE YOU CANT MOVE FOR PEOPLE HANGING AROUND THE MINI BANKS ON THE LANE AND THE BOOKIES IT IS VERY INTIMIDATING AND IF YOU CARED TO TAKE A PROPER LOOK THEY ARE LESS HOODIES AND MORE TOWARDS THE LATER STAGES OF TEENAGE LIFE THAT ARE HANGING AROUND.

  • The article now states that Gipton isn't a no-go area, however, Harehills isn't all that bad-a-place, and it certainlty isn't the worst in Leeds. Areas like Halton Moor, East End Park and Chapeltown are worse areas, and Gipton is considered far worse than Harehills. (unsigned comment)
  • I think that talking about "the worst place in Leeds" isn't much good, as it's likely to change every month. The current article seems better than the old one in many respects. Epa101 19:07, 30 June 2007 (UTC)

Gipton seems to have a connetation as being one of the worst areas in Leeds, whether this is true or not could be debated. Personally, I would say that neighbouring Seacroft is much worse. Gipton is worst towards the Southside, around Gipton Approach and Brander Road I would say. It's certainly troubled, but Seacroft and Halton Moot are far worse I would have said. Also this would depend on where you draw the border lines for Gipton, areas such as the Ambertons are sometimes refered to as both Gipton and Oakwood. Incedently to say Harehills 'isn't a bad place' is hardly encyclopedic text, and a blatant lie, being as it seems that every time I drive down Roundhay Road at night, either someone tries to jack the car or someone slams on infront of you at the Empire lights.Mtaylor848 (talk) 17:58, 6 December 2008 (UTC)
