Novels only for the workers?[edit]

'Her first review was submitted in 1849. During that time, novels were seen as something for only the working-class people.'

We would need to see a pretty good citation for that one. Most workers couldn't read and write at that time, and many upper and middle-class women had ample leisure, which they filled with novel-reading. Valetude (talk) 16:51, 5 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
