Untitled[edit]

I've edited in details about cars he's taken credit for but apparently didn't build. The source isn't perfect but the page does link to a number of names which could be used for further investigation: [1] (Requires registration). -Kingpin1055 17:20, 28 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Back to the Future controversy[edit]

The elements of this topic from the Criticism and Law Suit sections need to be combined into a single section. --George100 10:11, 7 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

??? What's going on?[edit]

Someone deleted a large section about cars Barris did build. Is Kingpin's ojections: 1. that he personally didn't get his hands dirty while building the cars or 2. that he's under the belief that Barris had nothing to do with the cars? This is a seperate subject from the "Cars he had nothing to do with but has sort of taken credit for"(i.e. Monkeemobile, the Black Beauty, The Dukes of Hazzard Chargers, Back to the Future cars, etc) controversy.

If Kimgpins point is #1, many car customizers don't do the "hands on" work. In a related area, architects, industrial designers and other professions take credit for what are group efforts. Even some artists have others cast their metal pieces. Does that mean Kingpin wouldn't give them credit for their works? If his point is #2. there are plenty of sources that list the cars that Barris unquestionably did...

In any event...I don't think this article now gives Barris credit for the TV and film cars he deserves credit for. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.203.195.156 (talk) 01:57, 31 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

With respect, the best way to preserve the text of an article is to provide citations of reliable sources, which this article has all of none to show. These would greatly help others maintain the article. To quote from WP:V "...any material challenged or likely to be challenged must be attributed to a reliable, published source using an inline citation". Consider the deletions to be a challenge to that material, and remember that the best defense is a good offense. Dan, the CowMan (talk) 03:39, 31 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Replace cut sections[edit]

I replaced the sections deleted by "Kingpin" (in his appearent zeal to bring up the "credit controversy) that I added earlier on other custom cars done be Barris and his shop. Yes, some of Barris' trading cards and books seem to give readers the idea he had something to do with non-Barris cars (the Monkeemobile and Black Beauty in particular) but he never comes right out and claims the car as his own. But if you read the 1974 Cars of the Stars book, he gives credit to Jeffries for the Black Beauty.

In any event, I replaced the sections about Barris cars to give the man credit where credit is due. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Bassetman4 (talkcontribs) 17:43, 11 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Chopped Merc[edit]

Since Hirohata Merc was deleted (but could be useful here), comment is invited here. TREKphiler any time you're ready, Uhura 22:33, 19 February 2010 (UTC) Now moot. TREKphiler any time you're ready, Uhura 23:29, 26 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

"Ciation Needed" added[edit]

In the "Criticism" section of the main article, I added "Ciation needed" to the claims about Barris claiming to have built the Monkeemobile, Black Beauty and General Lee. It seems fair that claims against Barris not be made unless they can be backed up. I agree, at times he's certainly given people the idea he had something to do with those cars, but I can't recall ever hearing from his lips or reading a direct quote that he built those cars. Before we libel him, I think any claims need to be verified in writing. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Bassetman4 (talkcontribs) 22:22, 26 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Agreed, & deleted per WP:BLP TREKphiler any time you're ready, Uhura 23:29, 26 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Silhouette[edit]

Two issues: how do things get added to the template? And did George or Sam make the major contribution to the Hirohata Merc? (I've always understood it was George, but the pages source suggests Sam.) If it was George, shouldn't that be in the template listing? TREKphiler any time you're ready, Uhura 19:21, 8 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Citations and Resources[edit]

Guys, a lot of these disputes can be resolved by emailing Dave Freiburger (HOTROD@sourceinterlink.com) at Hot Rod / Hot Rod Deluxe magazine. He can most likely verify or refute a claim, but also point us to the book or magazine article that has a reference to it.
On a separate note, I'd like to see a Personal Life section that talks about George, his relationship with Sam, and his wife Sherry who passed away from cancer back in the 90's. Sherry was a very kind and gracious woman and should be remembered in George's profile. Chris Scalhotrod (talk) 20:00, 11 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
