Untitled section[edit]

Cheryl Gates McFadden (born March 2, 1949 ...)

but: 1953 Births August 28 - Gates McFadden, actress

???

What's the truth? Memory Alpha article, linked to on this page, shows McFadden's DOB as Aug 28, 1953 also, agreeing with IMDB.

1949 is likely to be more true, given that she is listed as a Brandeis alumni in the class of 1970. Based on other sources as well, it's very implausible that she graduated from Brandeis at 17, no disrespect to Ms. McFadden intended.

Ms. McFadden is not listed in the faculty directory at USC. Does anyone know what she's currently working on? She hasn't been listed in the directory since at least the fall. 74.69.126.89 (talk) 21:42, 23 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Also saw her in extras for ITC television series Space:1999 as Choreographer.24.114.255.7 (talk) 20:54, 31 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

"The only TNG cast member who has not been a guest star..."[edit]

"McFadden is the only TNG cast member who has not been a guest star in any other Trek spin-off."

Interesting, but not true. Wil Wheaton and Denise Crosby have not appeared in any other spin-off. Although not credited as cast members, Diana Muldaur and Whoopi Goldberg were included in cast photos and did not appear in any spin-offs either, although Muldaur did appear in the original... but now I'm just nit-picking.

I would change this to say that "McFadden is the only TNG cast member who did not leave the show who has not been a guest star in any other Trek spin-off" (or something similar), except McFadden wasn't around for season two. (Interestingly enough, this means that all six cast members who were in all seven seasons did appear on other shows.)

If someone can figure out a way to accurately include this without it being awkwardly worded, go for it, but for the moment I'm taking it out.

Hi. Perhaps Crusher being the only known living and accountable character that has not appeared in a spin-off?
Wikipedia: "The audience is made aware of Yar's death on three different occasions. First she is killed by Armus. The second time, Sela informs the crew that Yar was executed after a failed attempt to escape from the Romulans. Then in the series's finale, "All Good Things...", we again see Yar die as the Enterprise is destroyed inside an anomaly."
Wesley Crusher went off with the multidimensional being, The Traveler, and may not exist, as we perceive life, in this universe anymore. That can be said for Guinan, as well.
I think Dr. Pulaski is a sore spot with Trekkies/Trekkers. She represents Gates McFadden being fired from the show and is perhaps unfairly ignored because of this. Joannabookworm (talk) 13:55, 15 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

didn't she also appear in a "Mad About You" episode?[edit]

I remember seeing Gates McFadden appear in a "Mad About You" episode. Is that true?

Yes. I think I remember her being a producer, or at least Paul's boss, at the Discovery Channel that he did documentaries for. There was one where he was to do a Yoko Ono documentary about the wind... She had a couple flunkies that followed her around and agreed with whatever she thought was good. Now all we need is a legitimate source. I wonder if IMDb has something? --Zuejay 20:14, 4 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Reason for leaving TNG[edit]

06:09, 28 June 2006 (UTC)

She stated in an interview that the real reason for leaving the show is that her husband was ill and she needed some time off. that is why her character was not killed. Crusher accepted an assignment teaching at Starfleet Academy. Diana Muldaur was not a permanent replacement, so they did not write her to be a popular character.

Not true at all. Those involved in the show, most notably Richard Arnold, have made it very clear she was fired due to disputes with the producers and other issues. She was only brought back when the character of Pulaski was poorly received and Muldaur had problems settling in.—Preceding unsigned comment added by Donners (talkcontribs) 21:38, 12 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Rick Berman, in his 3 hour interview at emmytvlegends.com said that she was fired because a producer Maurice Hurley didn't like Gates personally, or her acting.— Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.137.155.214 (talk) 15:02, 19 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Evidence of continued relationships with TNG co-stars still not sourced[edit]

I included a "citation needed" note in the personal life section awhile ago because the claim that McFadden maintains relationships with TNG co-stars was not sourced. An explanation of the nature of those relationships is now in the section, but it still does not cite any sources. I am removing the claims, although anyone may revert if they can source the information. Azlib77 —Preceding comment was added at 15:33, 3 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Changing Infobox image[edit]

I'd like to propose a change to the infobox image for this article. The current image of her has unflattering, harsh lighting and does not represent what she really looks like. Perhaps the one featured later in the article from "Trekonderoga" would be a better choice for the infobox as it better represents what she looks like now. Thoughts? "was married to John Talbot"[edit]

Was? When they divorce? 98.10.165.90 (talk) 23:00, 5 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

So, was it really her? IMDB say yes, my eyes say no, many sources for yes but no good ones. IKhitron (talk) 16:59, 25 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

It’s not her and the false credit was removed from imdb. It was a Vancouver based actress named Chy Liu. Queequeg073 (talk) 14:23, 23 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
