problems with POV and fancruft[edit]

He was the original guitarist for Reo Speedwagon and wrote many of their first songs like ridin the storm. He is one of the only musicians to come out of Peoria Illinois. He is a member of the great band Reo Speedwagon that is enough to be on here. This is just the start of this page I don't have the time to ad all the contributions. whats wrong with you dude, you need to lose your power as an administrator your just deleting anything. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by User:Denver944

If there is something to say about him other than what is written here now, he may well merit his own article. I have fixed up the stub a bit, but more does need to be added or else this article would be a ripe candidate to just be redirected to the band article. We'll see how it goes over the next week or more. Erechtheus 08:59, 28 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Working on putting works cited, but not sure how to do this yet.

Working on putting an embedded photo instead of a link.

currently reading his Biography plan to add more and cite sources when I know how.

Not sure what the comment about remove crufts meant? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by User:64.149.153.32

Cruft is unencyclopedic fan-rave content, often POV, such as "to get a good idea of his playing style, check out his solo guitar track from Live - You Get What You Play For" and "Gary left REO in 1990, and will be sorely missed by everyone who'd come to love his original and innovative style." Yeah I can see why cruft should not be on here : I like Wikipedia cause its an encyclopedia not a gossip magazine. Sometimes its hard to decypher the difference, but I know what you mean. I will try to keep that in mind while editing. I do have a Bachelors Degree, so I do have a little writing experience, but its been awhile.

External Links[edit]

An appeal to all parties involved: Please stop edit warring in the external links section. If you disagree on what links should be included, discuss it here first, and if you cannot some to some sort of consensus, take it to WP:3O or WP:MEDCAB. The same goes for REO Speedwagon and other related articles where this is being played out. Thank you. --Mwalimu59 14:22, 13 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The EL section on the main article was cleaned up, by request from me, by Wikipedia Administrator Wiki alf. With his rules in place all other REO related article can be made to follow suit. Currently there is discussion to add all launch.group links to Admin Shadowhalo's Shadowbot blacklist as they are WP:EL vios. Fansites, of lengthy history, credability and verifiability can be added to Wiki provided there has been previous discussion and concensus. So far, there has been no discussion as to which fansite warrants inclusion. Also, since this is a Gary Richrath article, it would have to be a Gary Richrath fansite... NOT an REO Speedwagon website. WP:EL rules are pretty simple. Some editors do not understand them, or choose to ignore them, which does nothing but reduce Wiki from any attempt at being an encyclopedia and makes it no better than the linkspam that's being added into these REO related articles. 156.34.142.110 15:14, 13 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Death[edit]

Not super-interested in this article, but his death has been said to be due to complications from ulcer surgery. This was brought on from years of alcohol abuse (per a comment from an FM radio show). There should be a Reliable Source out there for verification - such as Mojo magazine, for instance. 98.67.176.243 (talk) 03:47, 13 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

His alcoholism is mentioned here: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/obituaries/11880060/Gary-Richrath-guitarist-obituary.html - but not the surgical matter. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.67.176.243 (talk) 03:55, 13 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
