Salmorte[edit]

"Slamorte" made extensive changes 13 dec to the content, making the article pretty worthless in my eyes. Anyone else have an opinion? He added some good content, but at the same time removed some importent and interesting content too. So here i am complaining i dident feel like changing with the article yet.

hi, sorry i didn't document why i made the changes, but i made valid changes, and here's why: "within hiking distance of Humboldt Redwoods State Park" removed, because it's not. there is no possible way to walk from garberville to the park, but you can drive there in 30 minutes. "In the 1960s, hippies from Haight Ashbury came here to Garberville and grew their own crops" is totally without citation. hippies came ONLY from haight ashbury? not berkeley, or ohio, or anywhere else? no non-hippies ever came? furthermore my research has shown that the 60's influx to southern humboldt would be better classified as "homesteaders" or "back-to-the-landers" more than "hippies." many came to escape city living, and growing crops was secondary. "The town still attracts alternative people and environmentalists trying to protect the redwood forests" is only partially true and also uncited. the town attracts many different kinds of people including ranchers, urban escapees, very conventional retirees, and very unconvential folks as well. by why point out just one type? and what citations can you use to justify these quotes? my point here is to use documented, cited info as much as possible, which is why i didn't add more of what i just wrote to the main article: my own info is personally researched, but not yet documented. Mateel or Southern Humboldt?[edit]

With the Mateel Community Center as the defacto town hall for the area, it would seem to me the "Mateel Region" concept is generally accepted, especially in light of the organizing attempt to create an independent county out of the region. Yet Garberville is also part of Southern Humboldt County, although the way "169.231.23.169" had it edited, it appeared to say that "Northern Mendocino" was in Southern Humboldt, which it is not. Maybe room needs to be made for both references? After all, "So Hum" and "No Mendo" put together essentially constitute the "Mateel Region." Charles Douglas 16:52, 31 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
