I reintroduced the changes I already made some time ago, but which were reverted soon after.

The rationale for culling the sentence about the number of monasteries before 1937 is that it belongs much more into the article on Buddhism in Mongolia or the new article on Stalinist purges in Mongolia. We don't need to repeat it in articles about individual monasteries. In this article, it is sufficient to state that Gandan was the only working monastery for some decades.

That the Janraisig statue was rebuilt from donations by the Mongolian people is far from obvious. It might have been sponsored by the state or by other organizations. As long as there is no seperate article on the Janraisig statue, I don't see how the info is irrelevant in this article. Yaan (talk) 12:37, 20 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I read somewhere that it was also rebuilt with Japanese help or donations, not quite sure. Gryffindor (talk) 08:17, 29 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

name[edit]

What is the most common name for this monastery? Gandan? Then it should be moved to there. Gryffindor (talk) 08:17, 29 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
