Shippis, Shipis?[edit]

Someone (IP: 202.91.85.197) keeps adding unreferenced information about a group called Shippis or Shipis. I cannot find any information anywhere else about them. For this reason I am removing all references to them from this article. If, however, this seems unjustified perhaps they could start a new article on the Shippis (with some references, please!) and make links to and from the article on Gaddis? Gaddi → Gaddis
Gaddi (disambiguation) → Gaddi

– I don't see a primary topic between this ethnic group, the other ethnic group with the same name, their language, and the other (themselves probably more obscure) topics listed on the dab page. I don't have an opinion on whether Gaddis is better than Gaddi people: there was an objection to the first term in a 2009 move, but the form appears to be common, and it's used by the article's sources as well as by the article itself. – Uanfala (talk) 18:14, 11 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Support both I was initially mildly opposed to the article title move as the proposed title is plural and the singular form Gaddi is used in the sources; but i noticed the 'Exceptions' section of Wikipedia:Naming conventions (plurals) states that the singular form for an ethnic group should be recast as plural, and that 'people' is omitted from titles. I'm not familiar with the consensus that led to that naming convention, but i don't have any reason yet to doubt its suitability in this case. Zindor (talk) 16:52, 12 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
- There's more elaborate guidelines at Wikipedia:Naming conventions (ethnicities and tribes). It should be a good idea to create the disambiguation page for this. People generally searching for Gaddi would require information for both, the people and their language. - Please don't. We can't assume that all the links will necessarily have been for the tribe. Automated disambiguation of links is only viable for narrowly defined contexts (like [[Gaddi]] tribe -> [[Gaddi tribe]]). And there's no need either: there are less than 40 mainspace links here. – Uanfala (talk) 10:04, 21 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not a great fan of short name articles that only list people with the name, but they're somewhere between acceptable and recommended (MOS:DABNAME, WP:APONOTE), so I don't think there's anything to merge here. – Uanfala (talk) 16:25, 21 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Usernamekiran: the s of Gaddis is a plural marker (as in Germans), not part of the name. So you can have sentences like "The Gaddis are a tribe", but not ones like "The Gaddis people" (where a singular is needed). – Uanfala (talk) 19:20, 6 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
