There is a lot of POV and disinformation here. Gabrielle's surname is both Arabic and Muslim. The person who says it is subcontinental is talking from his proverbial rearside. There is no SOuth Asian religion based on Arabic names nor are Parsis/Zoarastrians names of Arabic origin but are Persian. Granted a lot of Muslims in Iran, Afghanistan, Pakistan, India, Central Asia and even Turkey have Persian origin due to ancient Persian empire, as do Parsis, but Hindus and Sikhs have Hindu-origin names not Arabic or Persian. Thus Muslims in above mentioned states may have Persian origin names but they will also have Arabic origin names. Bahais though will have Arabic origin names in addition to Persian names due to this faith being an off-shoot from Iranian Shia Islam in 19th century. Furthermore, the person who said most Muslims in Iran are Muslims in name only is also deluded. In fact they consider themselves as better and truer Muslims than majority Sunni elsewhere due to veneration of Prophet Mohammed and his descendants. It seems that anything to do with Islam and Muslims then Hindus/Sikhs and other Islamophobes will not miss an opportunity to get in and put forward lies and distortions to muddy the waters. Just look at Wikipedia entries on Shalwar Kameez, 'Indian' cuisine, Mehendi/Henna, Urdu/Hindi/Hindustani, Palestine,Zionism and other Muslim cultural topics. Iranian converts to Christianity, and asylum seekers in the West also fall into this category of villifiers of Islam and Muslims.

Gabrielle Anwar may or may not be Muslim but her father certainly is from a Muslim background regrdless of his later faith or lack of it.

Her father is Iranian NOT Indian. And not all Iranians are Muslim either. Most are muslim in name only due to the arab invasion. We still practice Zoroastrian traditions. I have Zoroastrian ancestry and am also a practicing Roman Catholic. Gabrielle Anwar has said she is spiritual, and practices some form of paganism, not Islam.

Iranian websites for unknown reason often times classify well known Asian Indian Nationals as being "Persian/Iranian". Case and example Freddy Mercury AKA Farokh Bomi Balsura.
