Graphic of the Army Structure[edit]

I'm currently working on a project to create graphics of the structure of the all important Armies. i.e. Australian Army, German Army, Italian Army a full listing of finished graphics can be found at commons:Category:Military OrBat Graphics. I would also very much like to create a graphic of the Israeli Ground Forces but the information at this point is not sufficient and to tell the truth, what information is currently given on wikipedia is more confusing than helpful... If anyone wants to help- the information I need would be to know which Brigades are belonging to which divisions or Commands and what battalions make up the Brigades. As soon as I have this information I will speedily create the graphic :-)--noclador 00:27, 16 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Article name[edit]

It's now called just זרוע היבשה in Hebrew, which translates to Ground Arm, so the translation GOC Army Headquarters doesn't make sense. Neither does Ground Arm though, for other reasons. What is the best parallel in various English-speaking forces? —Ynhockey (Talk) 15:46, 30 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

New Commander[edit]

Yoel Strick has been appointed commander of Ground Forces [1] [2]. I don't have the WP:XCON level on the English Wikipedia, necessary to edit the article. Alt0160 (talk) 06:11, 9 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

GOC Army Headquarters has a new tag![edit]

Please add this tag to the top of the information template:

(non-admin closure)

GOC Army HeadquartersIsraeli Ground Forces – I do not think this article is about a military headquarters as the current name suggests. The majority of it talks about the ground forces generally - apart from the lead paragraph, there are seven other content sections of which five refer to the ground forces: Units and structure; The IDF's third arm; Ranks; IDF Ground Forces equipment; and Future.

Although I do not speak Hebrew, the corresponding article at Hebrew Wikipedia is he:זרוע היבשה, which Google Translate suggests is "Ground Forces" in English. The majority of the other Wikipedia articles in d:Q1674702 also translate to either "Ground Forces" or similar. I would also consider renaming to Israeli Army but I do not think it is an entirely accurate title. Sildemund (talk) 10:51, 29 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Oppose. This would be an incorrect thing to do, at least based on the subject matter and content of the current article.
Although there may be a few sentences in the article dedicated to the ground forces as such, this specific article, as currently structured and composed, is not dedicated to the Israeli ground forces as such, but solely to the relevant structural unit (headquartures) in charge of the building of the ground forces, including the tag, history, list of commanders etc. (that are not the tag, history and commanders of the Israeli ground forces, but of these specific headquarters).
Google Translate is wrong here (as often happens), since the Hebrew name he:זרוע היבשה is the exact name of this specific unit, being only the relevant headquarters, but certainly not comprising the entire ground forces of the IDF.
It is possible to imagine that the article could be substanially re-worked in order to reflect the description of the Israeli ground forces as such (take as an example the corresponding Russian article describing the ground forces and dedicating a separate chapter to these headquarters), but this is not the case with the article. -- Prokurator11 (talk) 11:11, 29 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Prokurator11: Thank you for the explanation. I can see where I was mistaken. I will start a draft article about the ground forces. Could you advise how I can withdraw this request, please? Sildemund (talk) 17:34, 30 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
