History[edit]

So I've come across some of the history in bits and pieces. As far as I can tell, in the mid 1970s the Power Generation Group (nuclear, etc.) and Power Delivery Group (turbines, etc.) were merged to form GE Power Systems, predecessor of GE Energy. Originally each had its own Group Executive (CEO), and they were two of GE's ten at the time underneath Reginald H. Jones. The merger, apparently initiated in 1974, looks complicated and I can't sort out the hierarchy of key people, nor find out who was the first proper head of GE Power Systems. When the GE Three went public in 1976, George Stathakis was head (Vice President and General Manager) of GE Nuclear,[1] but I can't find out who the Group Executive(s) was/were above him or if the merger was completed by that time. He was a pretentious dickhead but my grandfather was one of those Group Executives, and when he retired in 1979 was the head of GE Power Systems. How wonderful. Nora lives (talk) 13:05, 4 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Power Systems > Energy[edit]

While not in a way a reliable source, see.[2] Here we have GE Power Systems simply renamed GE Energy 4 to 5 years before 2008. DinDraithou (talk) 06:47, 26 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Division[edit]

Is GE Energy called a division or is it made up of division. The article contradicts itself. We should better use the terms use in GE to describe its organization levels. ˜˜˜˜ — Preceding unsigned comment added by Tomeasy (talk • contribs) 30 October 2011

A division can be composed of divisions, just like a subsidiary can itself have subsidiaries. So far as I am aware GE Energy is a division, there is no 'GE Energy Inc' holding company.Rangoon11 (talk) 16:42, 30 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Changes to GE Power page for 2018[edit]

Hi all - I am an employee of GE Power and would suggest some edits to this page, as the info is really outdated and in some cases factually wrong. I hope you can approve these changes - I'm trying not to be biased or write with a promotional slant, but I'm happy to hear if others want to change.

Opening sentence should be changed to: GE Power is a business of General Electric Company and a leader in power generation with deep domain expertise. The division helps customers deliver electricity from a wide spectrum of fuel sources. It is the largest power technology business in the world. [1]

History section: This is really pretty outdated, none of these businesses are called the same things anymore and the dates can be wrong. Here is what I suggest:

GE has been active in developing power generation technology since the late 19th century. In the early 21st century, GE Power was a business of GE Energy, which existed in GE’s infrastructure group of businesses.

GE Energy was headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia. [4]

In July 2012, then-CEO John Krenicki announced that he would be stepping down as president of GE Energy, and the business would be broken into three business units reporting to GE’s Chairman & CEO: GE Power & Water; GE Energy Management and GE Oil & Gas. [8][4]

This move was announced as an effort to drive simplification and visibility in GE, and the three units began their new reporting structure in October 2012.

Upon the November 2015 acquisition of Alstom S.A.’s Power & Grid businesses, GE Power & Water changed its name to GE Power. At that time, the renewables business unit of GE Power combined with Alstom S.A.’s wind and hydro businesses and became a separate business unit reporting directly to GE’s Chairman & CEO and was named GE Renewable Energy. The Grid business of Alstom S.A. became part of the GE Energy Management business which changed its name to GE Energy Connections.

In June 2017, GE announced the combination of the GE Power business with the GE Energy Connections business and the retention of the GE Power name for the combined business to be led by the former GE Energy Connections president and CEO, Russell Stokes. [9]

On October 1, 2017, GE Power completed the sale of GE Water & Process Technologies to SUEZ. [10]

Products and Services section: There are thousands of products GE Power makes, so it's not helpful to list them all, in my opinion. How about this language instead:

GE Power currently operates across sectors in the energy ecosystem. The business manufactures and sells power generation equipment for gas, steam, coal, and nuclear power plants. In addition, GE Power manufactures power conversion technology, transmission and distribution equipment, and digital solutions using GE’s Predix platform. GE Power also has a global services business focused largely on the operations, maintenance, and upgrades of power plants. [1]

GE Power sidebar: The "Type" should be "Division", not "Subsidiary" as written. Legally, GE Power is not a subsidiary but a division.

GE Energy sidebar: This should be removed, GE Energy has been gone for 5+ years and GE Power was not a replacement...it was part of GE Energy and has merged/acquired so many other things since GE Energy left GE that it's not accurate to say GE Energy was the former version of GE Power.

Spinoff of Power business[edit]

Should start to add information on the spinoff announced. GE Power, GE Renewable Energy, and GE Digital will be spun off from GE and made into the independent business GE Energy (the name returns?).[1] --Lahti213 (talk) 20:28, 2 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
