Untitled[edit]

"During his military tour in Manchuria in World War II, Gogen was captured by the Soviet military in 1942 and incarcerated as a prisoner of war in a Russian concentration camp; it was here that he battled and defeated a live tiger."

I am inclined to doubt the veracity of this statement, and contrary to its claim it has no citation. Removed. 60.234.219.204 (talk) 10:30, 1 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

===[edit]

Agree with the above. The tiger incident is mythology. In addition, since the USSR did not declare war on Japan until 1945, how could a Japanese serving in Manchuria (then a Japanese puppet state controlled by Japan) be 'captured' by the Soviet military and become a prisoner of war of the USSR in 1942? It is disappointing that the dubious comments remain in July 2018. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Kawika88 (talkcontribs) 23:55, 19 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Nickname[edit]

Is there any reason that Yamagauchis' nickname is not mentioned right in the intro Paragraph?
Could use more sources and has barely any? in-line citations. Suppose problem here is most sources are probably in Japanese.

Paul Starling was/is also a very well respected member of Goju as well. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 124.185.48.160 (talk) 05:03, 24 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Students[edit]

why did Hanshi Deena Naidu and Hanshi Tino Cebrano get deleted. Both of these wonderful martial artists were direct students of Gogen sensei. Hanshi Tino Cebrano was head of Australian Goju Kai, both men were graduates from the college. 203.37.54.218 (talk) 04:31, 12 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
