Merger proposal[edit]

It is proposed that this article be merged with Futurism. I disagree. Merging would make that article too long as there is a lot here.

This article needs a lot of work. It assumes too much knowledge of the topic and needs better introduction, explanation and contextualisation. Marshall46 (talk) 19:41, 26 December 2008 (UTC) 19:41, 26 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Nothing has come of the merger proposal, so I've removed the tag. Marshall46 (talk) 08:09, 16 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Texts[edit]

The poems quoted should have the original Italian as well as the English, as the sound of the poems is arguably more important than their sense (as you will hear if you listen to this recording of Marinetti reading La battaglia di Adrianopoli). Marshall46 (talk) 09:40, 30 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I think there is some confusion about the "Excessive Haste". The only literary Verlaine I know of would have died years before futurism began, and I'm not convinced that this is his play. I did some quick research, but I can't come up with anything other than instances online where it appears to have been copied verbatim. It either needs elaboration, context, or to be removed altogether. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 148.255.177.52 (talk) 19:40, 30 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Agreed. Deleted. Pelarmian (talk) 16:42, 2 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Tense[edit]

I've changed the tense in the intro to the present. Futurism *was* a trend, but *is* an intellectual direction that still exists - hence present tense (cf Mannerism etc). Thought I'd solicit thoughts before making the change throughout.Matttoothman (talk) 17:55, 26 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I disagree. Futurism is dead as a movement, and to say it "is" this or that suggests that it is current. The intro to the Mannerism article also reads oddly. Marshall46 (talk) 20:37, 26 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I suppose it depends on whether you think that artistic movements are more analogous to philosophies ("Stoicism is ___") or social movements ("The Jacobins were ___"), where I think these usages are fairly standard. Resolving the two seems to require a fair knowledge of the movements themselves, and after looking at it, I agree with you on using past-tense. Looking around for (counter)examples among other pages on major visual art movements turns up very inconsistent usage. Matttoothman (talk) 02:30, 19 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
