Story length (VHS)[edit]

I watched this story on VHS recently and the total duration was about 78 minutes according to the display on my VCR. This is significantly less than that suggested by the article. Was the story edited down for VHS release? Are the official timings wrong? Is my VCR/DVD player faulty? Custardslice7 (talk) 09:08, 5 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

A lot of stories were edited for VHS, there were two main reasons. First, there were sometimes cuts for content in order to qualify for a U certificate. Second, several four-episode stories (nominally 96-100 minutes in total) were routinely edited to fit a 90-minute tape, usually by removing the opening titles and recap scene from all episodes except the first, and the closing titles from all episodes except the last; these sometimes required further cuts for timing. The practice of joining the episodes together and editing for length ceased in mid 1989, and most of the stories that were originally released in cut form were later reissued uncut.
