Demonym?[edit]

What's the demonym for a resident of Fremont? I think it's non-obvious and readers would benefit from knowing it. --yolfer

The Fremont Tribune apparently uses "Fremonter": see "Fremonters arrested after disturbances", "Fremonters share memories of history professor" (which also uses "Fremonter" in the body of the article), "Fremonters launch new non-denominational church". The Columbus Telegram also seems to use it: headline "Fremonters must live with their vote". I found one use by the Omaha World-Herald: "Fremonter plans event to show youths 'there is hope'". A Google search suggests that "Fremonter" is also used for residents of other Fremonts, including those in California, Ohio, and Oregon. A Google search for "fremontian", which was the only other likely demonym, turned up no hits for reliable sources. — Ammodramus (talk) 13:19, 8 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Marg Helgenberger[edit]

Editing of Page[edit]

Several times I have posted a descriptive phrase on the main page, only to have it removed. I grew up in Fremont and for 15 years, throughout grade school, Junior High and High School we used this phrase to refer to Fremont. However, every time I have posted it here it has been removed, and then I was banned from editing the page. Now my discussion of this phrase has been removed, with no explanation given. Perhaps I do not understand how Wikipedia works, but I thought it was an open encyclopedia where everyone can edit and add information. While it may not be the most flattering description of the town, it is accurate, it is authentic, and it is something you will hear if you live there from the residents. So I ask - why is it being edited out, and why am I being blocked from putting it here? Who makes that determination? I lived there, I used the phrase and heard it in common usage constantly. Who decides that my life experience has no value here?

I just went over the Vandalism page, and I guess I would qualify as a "new" user, but at the same time, I'm trying to help describe the town as the residents see it, not just some homogenized version you could get out of a travel brochure. If that's considered vandalism, post it here and straighten me out. I won't repost that "offending" phrase until I hear back here.

The unsigned comment above is just sophisticated vandalism. I lived in Fremont, NE for 18 years and I find it strange that I have never even ONCE heard it referred to as the "Armpit of Nebraska", as the unsigned writer wrote before it was replaced. 65.191.68.151 (talk) 11:19, 19 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Ha! "Sophisticated vandalism." I am neither sophisticated nor a vandal. Fremonters (especially in High School) frequently refer to Fremont as "the armpit of Nebraska" because of the smell from the Hormel plant on the south side of town. Again, this is life experience, not "vandalism." I agreed not to put it on the page anymore, but don't tell me that nobody calls it that simply because your anecdotal experience says otherwise. I also lived in Fremont for 18 years, and I heard it called that quite often, thanks.

I grew up in Fremont during the late 1940s and '50s and I recall the phrase 'The Armpit of Nebraska', though it wasn't in reference to smells from Hormel's. Many of us, including my father, called the town 'Ferment' and referred to Midland College as 'Mildew'. Eggs Ackley (talk) 16:13, 3 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Add more information about education[edit]

In Fremont, there are about 7 public elementary schools, a 5/6 center known as JCAC, a middle school (FMS), and FHS. Maybe we should add more information about those schools here? WiinterU (talk) 15:11, 22 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
