Name[edit]

Freda Payne was at least in 1959 known as Freda Farley. Farley was the family name of her stepfather, Samuel G. Farley. Farley died in 2001 per Jet Magazine, 8/31/2001. Payne's mother used her married name Farley and can be seen in Jet Magazine, 12/30/1976 with her mother and Payne's husband Gregory Abbott. i don't remember freda payne much, when she came out i was no older than 2 back in 1970. that was the year of the age of aquaritus so it was told. i think in my opinion that was her only number one hit.

To the author of this article - you are asking for a citation of Freda Payne's marriage to singer Gregory Abbott. This story is TRUE. I subscribed to and read Right On! magazine from 1973-1981. In 1975, Freda Payne did marry singer Gregory Abbott. Right On! magazine reported this story and featured photographs of their wedding in one of their issues. They also had a son named Gregory, Jr. If you still need more verification on this, please feel free to contact Right On! magazine's archival department.

It is also true that singer Scherrie Payne is Freda's younger sister. When the death of their mother and her funeral services was reported in JET magazine (circa 1976-77?), they are in a photograph alongside their mother, and were photographed at her funeral services. Jet Magazine also had pictures of her wedding in Chicago.

Marriage to Gregory Abbott[edit]

I agree. Someone is insisting that she married Gregory abbot. Is it possible that the Greg abbot that is linked is actually her son? She could have had him in her 20s

Her age[edit]

This article now contradicts itself. AllMusic say she was born in 1945. Others sources say 1942. References (Inc one from Blue&Soul), say Sherrie is her 'youngest sister', yet Sherrie was born in 1944! Discogs.com say both 1942 and 1945 [1]. She is touring the UK later this year with Cliff Richard and is referred to as '68 year-old.....' Which would mean 1945 was wrong. This article shouldn't contradict itself now, because I took out any references to Scherrie being the "younger" sister and Freda the "elder". This article says that Freda was born in 1945 - probably wrong, but supported by most reliable sources. I wasn't aware of the Cliff Richard publicity, but that isn't a reliable source anyway, and nor is Discogs (at least, not on matters like this).
