Jenks was one of those impeccable minor craftsmen who made Studio Era films great. I saw His Girl Friday tonight and Jenks was essential. Cary Grant's odd physical absence from the middle of the film makes me wonder if Harry Cohn at Columbia only arranged to hire him for a certain number of days. Rosalind Russell, when Grant isn't there, uses Jenks and two other polished character actors as her foils. They do a great job. Jenks probably ended up with as much screen time as Cary Grant, oddly enough-- genuine "supporting" actors. Generations of film scholars to come, looking at this classic, are going to wonder who those fine actors are. Sources on Jenks are confused. I know he had a big hit at the end of the Fifties, playing second banana in the popular TV comedy Colonel Flack. IMDB lists it as 1953, 1959, and "Year Unknown." Answers.com says 53-54, 58. Answers.com has quite a bit on his minor work, while completely missing His Girl Friday, if anyone wants to enlarge this section.
