Early unsectioned discussion[edit]

Original "Forstress Europe"[edit]

I visited Gibraltar recently and it seems that the british built "Fortress Europe" there 1840. At least of what I could read on the huge walls of the fortress. 94.191.168.130 (talk) 18:43, 11 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Limits of the concept[edit]

In Spain, at least, the concept is used (pejoratively) to define the idea that Europe should become less open to immigration. It is usually used by those suppotring greater openess to immigration. Anyhow it is not used to describe anti-globalization or anti-mundialization in trade such as some green parties or leftist parties. --Varano 19:14, 27 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

In the Netherlands, the concept is used in a similar manner. To be honest, I was quite surprised to find this article instead of the comment on Europe's strict border regime. Image[edit]

Fixing the article.[edit]

Okay, I went back and fixed this thing up so that it's no longer just a stub bashing European immigration or the lack thereof. I reinserted the material about the British battle honour, as well as sectioning off a reedited note about the Atlantic Wall and the use of the term to describe military fortifications. Then I added a section on the modern uses of the term inside and outside Europe, which is where I dropped the (now NPOV friendly) immigration items. If anyone wants to expand the immigration section, please do, but bear in mind: if you just trash the entire article again, then I WILL come after you and eat your liver. 65.37.15.60 (talk) 02:56, 6 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Post war usage[edit]

This section is in clear violation of WP:V WP:NOR and WP:NPOV. Specifically see WP:V WP:SYNTHESIS and WP:WikiVoice.

Using Europe when what is meant is the European Union they are not synonymous.
"or as a pejorative description of the state of immigration into the European Union." No source (WP:V.
"Currently, within Europe,..." This is POV a statement of fact presented in the passive narrative voice of Wikipedia (breaks WP:WikiVoice)
"Conservatives all over Europe" what does conservative mean? For example the British Conservatives have little in common with Christian Democratic parties so are CDs conservative?
"Conservatives all over Europe want to end the Schengen Agreement" No source (violation ov WP:V) Besides as far as I know those countries outside the Schengen area but inside the European Union have no fixed opinion on this.
- Which is the conservative party in Ireland?

This is not an extensive list but a sample of some of the things that need fixing.

Unless someone is willing to spend some time fixing this section in the near future, I suggest that it is move to this talk page and not put back until after the obvious policy violations are fixed. -- PBS (talk) 13:48, 26 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

"illegals"[edit]

I am not a wikipedia editor and so will not change the page, but use of the dehumanising term "illegals" has no place in any article, least of all one regarding Europe (that phrase is part of US informal english). Claiming asylum is not illegal; if you do not qualify for asylum then at worst you could be an "illegal immigrant" but even this phrase has a pretty ugly history, preferred phrasing might be "undocumented migrants" or similar. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 212.100.0.227 (talk) 16:46, 6 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
