The Netherlands abandoned its traditional policy of neutrality after World War II. What about the Netherland entering the League of Nations in 1920 (entering the League not as a neutral observer like Switzerland)? Intangible 19:44, 3 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The Netherlands tried to be neutral during the start of World War II, but when they got occupied by the Germans it pretty much ended. I'm not sure on the reasons for entering the League of Nations. 81.71.36.212 13:39, 1 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The Netherlands actually tried to remain neutral even when the country was occupied and the government in exile in London. It wasn't until 1942 that they explicitly sided with the Allies.
According to wikipedia Switzerland, as were Sweden, Norway and Finland, the other 'neutral states'. Apparantly membership of the LoN does not imply aneutrality, unless obviosly you're a swedish communist. C mon 16:13, 1 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

drugs[edit]

in the article the following is said:

The most important foreign policy issue for the Netherlands is it liberal policy towards drugs, which have made the Netherlands one of the major exporters of illicit drugs.

I'm sorry, but the Netherlands' most important foreign policy is most certainly not its drug policy (check www.minbuza.nl), and its policy is not what made it one of the major exporters of drugs. The Netherlands does not condone in any way the use of hard drugs such as cocaine and heroine or xtc, and its liberal drug policy can therefore not explain why it is one of the biggest exporters of xtc in the world. The Netherlands has a liberal policy towards softdrugs, mainly marihuana, and the Netherlands is one of the countries in Europe which has the least problems with drug addicts. So please check your facts or put them down as your opinion, instead of stating it like it is the truth. Thank you.

nuclear weapons[edit]

Do the Netherlands really have nuclear weapons on their soil (anymore)? I very much doubt it.

The US Military still has a number of bases where thermonuclear devices are stored. 82.74.194.61 (talk) 11:17, 14 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I think so, see the (Dutch) article "‘geheim van Volkel’ duikt op in Embassy Files Wikileaks" of the NRC Handelsblad. Qense (talk) 13:01, 2 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Transatlanticism[edit]

The link to "atlantic cooperation" goes to an album by Death Cab For Cutie. It really is a good album though. 129.59.97.230 09:36, 23 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for noticing! I've redirected to Atlanticism. C mon 10:13, 23 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed WikiProject - Bilateral relations[edit]

There is now a upstart WikiProject to establish a concensus about WP's International bilateral relations articles, including "X-Y (country) relations" articles, at Wikipedia:Centralized discussion/Bilateral international relations. Interested parties should add their names at Wikipedia:WikiProject International relations/Bilateral relations task force if they wish to play a part in the discussions or have an Interest in this going forward. Thank you for your attention. CaribDigita (talk) 23:40, 29 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

New information needing to be incorporated[edit]

I just found this news item, which states the Netherlands announced 9 April it will close 9 embassies -- in Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Eritrea, Zambia, Bolivia, Ecuador, Guatemala, Nicaragua and Uruguay -- open new missions in Panama City and in the Chinese city of Chengdu, and downgrade the embassy to Tanzania to an economic mission. How should this information be incorporated into this or any related articles? -- llywrch (talk) 23:10, 14 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
