Article name

I'm a Queens resident, and I almost always hear this park referred to as "Flushing Meadows-Corona Park." Is there a legitimate reason why this article should be named "Flushing Meadows Park" and not "Flushing Meadows-Corona Park"? I will rename the article if such justification is lacking. --Larry V (talk | contribs) 21:50, 27 June 2006 (UTC)

I'm a Flushing Queens resident and the reason why the park is called Flushing Meadows park is because the park lies my in Flushing than in Corona. Only when reffering to the Far north-west section of the park do they include corona in it. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 151.202.104.48 (talkcontribs)

I am a Flushing resident as well, I have heard "Flushing Meadows-Corona Park", "Flushing Meadows Park", and "Corona Park". I have to say the first two names are a lot more common. --Voidvector 06:04, 5 July 2007 (UTC)

I'm a Queens Resident and NEVER hear "Flushing Meadows-Corona Park". only "Flushing Meadows". My daughter plays high school soccer and thye PSAL web site refers to it as "Flushing Meadow". Jimryan

Hi, folks, I found the answer to your questions: "Flushing Meadow Park" was the originally proposed name for this tract of land that was entirely reclaimed from the ashdump. I found an NYTimes article that says the name was changed in 1964 "'salve the wounded pride' of Corona, Queens, by changing the name of Flushing Meadow Park, site of the World's Fair, to Flushing Meadows-Corona Park." (see article for citation). I'm going to make some changes so that we use the original name for the intro and such.Fixifex (talk) 18:30, 29 January 2012 (UTC)

Lead image replacement

@Nkon21: Honestly, I don't think the switching of the lead image is an improvement. File:Flushing Meadows–Corona Park-2.jpg only shows part of the New York State Pavilion and has an empty field prominently in the foreground. Additionally, the view of the Unisphere in this image is blocked by trees, even though it's supposed to be the focus of the image. The old image, File:Flushing Meadows Corona Park.jpg, shows most of the pavilion and the Unisphere, with Meadow Lake in the foreground, thereby being more representative of the park as a whole. I would prefer that the images be switched back, even though the previous image is older. epicgenius (talk) 18:55, 30 September 2020 (UTC)

Yeah I agree that it's not the best, but the other image shows the Unisphere blocked by trees in the same way, in addition to it being super old. How about this one image I found, as it gives a clearer view of the park's two main landmarks better than the both of them. Maybe I can brighten it up a little bit as it's a bit dark. ɴᴋᴏɴ21 ❯❯❯ talk 00:31, 1 October 2020 (UTC)
@Nkon21: Thanks for the response. File:Flushing Meadows–Corona Park.jpg seems much better, even though as you said it might need a little brightening up. Looking at the original now, it is also blocked by trees (although it's also a bit further away from the Unisphere and NY State Pavilion). But this third image is largely above the tree line, and not mostly focused on an empty field, so it should resolve my concerns. epicgenius (talk) 13:15, 1 October 2020 (UTC)
