Untitled[edit]

IMO the term 'flotilla' is used for non-military groups of ships. It's frequently used for a bunch of people chartering yachts and sailing together. See this link for an example. I think the page should reflect this. What do you think? --130.129.65.30 (talk) 05:37, 29 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The term flotilla can also be used as a group of people usually drunk floating on intertubes, rafts, air matresses,or any material that floats. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.229.57.76 (talk) 07:29, 10 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I believe it can also be used to refer to an island of boats tethered together. Aaron 06:37, 29 November 2012 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Asouer (talkcontribs)

Freedom Flotilla[edit]

Mention of the Freedom Flotilla is worthy here. What doesn't make sense is to include information (or disinformation) about the raid itself, which is amply discussed in the wiki-linked article. I would have liked to say something like "the word flotilla has been made popular since....", but that would be OR, since twitter and Google trends do not necessarily mean a word has been popularized. It is interesting to note that flotilla has been trending on twitter since May 31 (when it stops trending, we can update the article to denote that).

Pronunciation[edit]

I would be interested in seeing information about the pronunciation. I hear many people pronounce it as flo-til-la, and others pronounce it like tortilla, as in flo-tee-ya. I hear both pronunciations in American English often enough that I think it's worth mentioning the correct way, if there is one. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.131.31.169 (talk) 14:31, 14 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
