Public domain[edit]

How can I find out if a Betty Boop/ Fleischer B/W cartoon is Public Domain? 惑乱 分からん 13:47, 19 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Popeye[edit]

The article states that the Popeye cartoons did not become public domain, but right alongside it is a picture of a Popeye cartoon with a caption saying it's public domain. The text also indicated that cartoons such as Popeye the Sailor Meets Sindbad the Sailor are owned by a.a.p., but the page for that cartoon says that it is public domain. Did some of these cartoons become public domain after the time period it's discussing, and the article just failed to mention it, or is there some confusion here? - furrykef (Talk at me) 23:53, 7 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Paramount bankruptcy[edit]

I originally removed the mention of Paramount bankruptcy because I had not heard of it before and no reference was cited. It was added again, this time with a reference. OK, I believe you, but what is the point of mentioning it here? What impact did it have on the Fleischers?

I also removed it because it was placed as an interruption between two related sentences.

I'm not trying to be a jerk. Please show me how the brief bankruptcy and reorganization of Paramount is relevant here. Make it pertinent, and it'll stay. --Bigscarymike 16:13, 19 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Takeover by Paramount[edit]

The description of the Fleischer brothers departure from their cartoon studio here is in direct contradiction to that found in Leonard Maltin's book, Of Mice and Magic (Plume Books, 1980). That account states the act was abrupt and probably illegal, but by the time Max F. thought to take the matter to the courts, too much time had passed for his suit to have any real standing. I see the source is a book by Michael Barrier with which I'm unfamiliar. Can anybody compare them and enlighten us as to which account has the greater credibility? --Ted Watson (talk) 21:56, 17 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

UPDATE: I note the cited and linked-in account by Jerry Beck, but find it to be somewhat lacking in credibility. Beck cites no sources whatsoever, and the main purpose of that web page is to discuss various Fleischer/Famous/Paramount cartoon title cards and sequences. Consequently, this brief summary of the transition may very well be nothing more than Beck taking Barrier's 1999 book at face value. Therefore, my request remains open. --Ted Watson (talk) 21:27, 6 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Filmography[edit]

Darwin's Theory of Evolution (1923) used to link to Darwin's Theory of Evolution#1923 film, which is a redirect to On the Origin of Species. Hopefully the redlink will cause something to get done. --Kramer Associates (talk) 05:40, 16 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

WB and DC[edit]

The article says that WB bought DC. That is incorrect. The Kinney company bought DC first, then bought WB-Seven Arts a few years later. Tighelander (talk) 08:32, 21 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
