16 August Flag[edit]

I don't think this flag is similar to the one flown in San Marino or any other sammarinese flag flown anywhere else. It should be changed, the previous one was better. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ecad93 (talkcontribs) 08:05, 25 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

1465 flag[edit]

What is the exact source for the design of the 1465 flag? It sounds a bit Original Research to me.--194.113.40.62 (talk) 09:16, 28 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Municipalities[edit]

I added a small "blurb" on the municipal flags of San Marino as they are very similar to the national flag. --Mikeduke324 (talk) 18:30, 3 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Historical flag design to be updated[edit]

Historian Verter Casali has contested the traditional reconstruction made by Carlo Malagola, suggesting that the "alessandrino" colour cited in the XV century order of tissues for the flag, instead of a purple was actually a shade of azure. Later, to avoid confusion with Papaline ensigns, the Republic would have dropped the gold tincture coming to the actual white-azure bicolour.

An interesting corroboration to his theory comes from the Max Pfister, 1987. "Lessico Etimologico Italiano, Vol. II" dictionary, where the entry "alessandrino" is defined as "a type of azure"

There's no mention of a CoA or an emblem charging the flag, not even after the change (until at least at 1862 officialization).

IMHO, a revision of the page should be discussed
