The German and French Wikipedias...[edit]

...use the FIAV designation for civil, government, and military land use for the flag , while the English Wikipedia uses only the civil designation . Which designation is correct?

Having read Article 19 of the appropriate law (Wappengesetz), I suppose the German and French Wikipedias are right. I changed the English article accordingly. Gugganij 13:05, 21 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The crown on the flag?[edit]

Is the crown on the flag a copy of a real one or just an idealized one to symbolize independence? Timur lenk (talk) 19:46, 2 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

1936 Olympics[edit]

Can the 1936 Olympics story be verified in any way? Haiti wasn't in the 1936 Olympics. Perspixx (talk) 05:14, 9 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Excellent point. I had to check out several facts before (not) answering you. Haiti, in fact, did not compete in the Summer games between 1932 and 1960. Liechtenstein did not compete in the Summer games until 1936. Thus, 1960 would have been the first time they competed in the same Summer Olympics. With that said, the story may still be true. Or not. I have no facts to support it. I will say that Wikipedia is consistent in this 'fact'. The closest I have for support is from the Flags of the World website, where it is written: On "24 June 1937, a yellow bonnet de prince was added in the blue stripe near the hoist, following the well-known confusion with the Haitian flag in Berlin Olympic Games in 1936. Ivan Sache, 01 Mar 2001, translating and adapting Roger Baert in [bat00]" Take it for what it is worth. Shall we remove it? Svyatoslav (talk) 22:07, 11 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
By the way, the URL for the Flags of the World is: http://www.fotw.net/flags/li_hist.html#1937 Svyatoslav (talk) 22:08, 11 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I have to research this more carefully, however, my impression is that - in spite of no direct collision between the flags in 1936 - the Liechtenstein flag would be seen as the Haitian flag, because Haiti had competed in 1924, 1928 and 1932.--

In Youtube some videos of the opening ceremony of the Berlin 1936 Games can be seen and a delegation of Haiti is there Cite error: There are <ref> tags on this page without content in them (see the help page). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GePNydI9gX4 at 2:53. Also in the Official Report (Volume II page 707) is counted Haiti as entering one competitor in Weightlifting Middle-weight class that finally didn't compete. In Volume I among the pictures of the parade of nations one of the Haiti team is printed too-
