Ideology The summary does not mention the heavy ideological bias of the film. At frequent intervals, the dialogue contrasts insular freedom with continental tyranny. Hardly any Anglo-Saxon viewer would fail to grasp the repeated warnings against Franco, Mussolini and above all Hitler. It is quite explicit that, just as in 1588, the England of 1937 will soon face overwhelming attack. The Lawless One (talk) 23:48, 6 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Star billing[edit]

Originally Conrad Veidt was to star, but Alexander Korda saw the production as a star vehicle for Vivien Leigh, who was under contract to Korda.

What is the connection? Would Veidt only agree to work on the project if he got solo star billing? Valetude (talk) 17:06, 16 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
