I was asked to evaluate the translation here from Romanian, but I think the issues run deeper than that.
The translation is more or less OK (though for English-language readers I've turned "lăutari and taraf bands" into "traditional Romanian lăutari and taraf bands", since I suspect neither of the terms is widely understood by English-speakers). However, there are only two cited sources. One is a Romanian-language article that either has either a now-broken or an incorrect URL, and from which nothing can be gleaned. The other is a German-language article by Franz Metz that I'm not at all convinced the original Romanian-language Wikipedian author understood well, and of which they certainly did not make great use. You would never guess from the article we've got that Barbu composed music on Jewish themes, that he was influenced by Stravinsky and Schönberg, and that his work was condemned by the Nazis as degenerate art, nor that he wrote an autobiography. Also, I think the thing around the "Ion Vidu" choir, and the "Reuniunea română de muzică și cântări" is confused, but I can't quickly sort it out. It is clear from the Metz source that he was a co-founder with Vidu of a choir in 1922, not the sole founder of a choir named after Vidu.
Anyway, I suspect someone would do well to start this nearly from scratch, beginning with the Metz article as a source and seeking out other sources. - Jmabel | Talk 04:06, 31 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
