1st Edition Versions[edit]

What about the two versions of the 1st Edition Fiend Folio? The first "version" had some extra pages and extra, er, fiends (I guess is what you'd call them....). I don't recall all the details, but I do remember that it was a VERY limited printing, and these rare books are much in demand by collectors and players (such as me....).

I just remembered (I think) it was referred to as the "144-page Fiend Folio", if that helps any....

Just wonderin'....

Oops - answered my own question - it's the Dieties and Demitwits book I was thinking of....

Awesome. :) BOZ (talk) 19:05, 28 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for hitting that first one; I'll try to look at the rest but I've already been going for a while and might need a lengthy break soon. :) BOZ (talk) 01:02, 30 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Hey wow, I'm mentioned by name on that link to "The Planes". :) BOZ (talk) 01:18, 30 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Link please. (I may create an article about you if you can find another one). - Peregrine Fisher (talk) (contribs) 02:02, 30 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
LOL! I am seriously not notable. :) BOZ (talk) 02:10, 30 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Heh - yeah, not really. :) If getting 7 or 8 articles published in Dragon makes one notable, then there are about to be a whole lot more articles around here. ;) BOZ (talk) 02:16, 30 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
That's cool. I didn't know you worked in the industry. Are you Bart Carroll, Steve Winter, or someone else mentioned on that page? - Peregrine Fisher (talk) (contribs) 10:23, 30 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Momentarily I did some freelance for Dragon and a couple d20 publishers, yeah. :) Probably made less than $2000 all told, but it was a lot of fun. ;) Neither of those names are me; Steve Winter has his own page, and I'm definitely not him. Think about this screen name and compare it to the names you see there and you'll figure it out. :) BOZ (talk) 13:12, 30 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Stuff removed from article[edit]

I'm working on this article, perhaps to take it up to GA, but at least to improve it as best I can. While I'm sure much of the below stuff is true, there is currently no source provided for any of it. If you know of a source, please feel free to add the information back in with a citation to said source.

  • Public reaction to the Fiend Folio was mixed, at best, with many gamers criticizing the new monsters as strange or useless. (The flumph is often mentioned as both.)
  • Decades after the book's publication, D&D players continue to debate the book's merits (i.e. [2], [3], [4]).

(OK, well, yeah, that second one comes with its own sources, but we can't generally use forum posts as reliable sources.) BOZ (talk) 22:42, 28 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

That definitely does count as interesting! :) BOZ (talk) 11:17, 26 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Actually there are several articles devoted to the development of the FF which are really interesting. Finally after decades some scholarly material on these things! But I've been well and truly sidetracked with 5e conversions over on enworld XD Cas Liber (talk · contribs) 20:51, 26 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
