Untitled[edit]

Just FYI, Fernando Sor in Catalan is Ferran Sor. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 83.32.59.37 (talk) 18:29, 24 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Changes[edit]

A list of changes I'm thinking about making:

  • Rewrite the biography section. The current section cites "Cecilia Ruiz de Ríos, Nicaraguan historian", but I was unable to find where it actually came from. I would use an entry found in this book, and integrate other sources where possible.
  • Integrate the quotes section into the biography and works section. Currently, this section is a bit unwieldy.
  • Remove the majority of the external links, as WP:ELPOINTS says the external links section should be kept to a minimum.

Thoughts, suggestions, comments? Jujutacular T · C 16:26, 19 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

It is so much better now.--Karljoos (talk) 17:35, 19 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Good changes. But please don't go and remove all the external links - there are some good resources there for guitarists (esp. scores!) Other than the "Wolf Moser"-book I would not remove anything. MySorAccount (talk) 06:00, 22 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I'll keep those thoughts in mind, thank you for the feedback. Jujutacular T · C 07:47, 26 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
The subject painting is highly unlikely to be Sor so I have removed the claim. The painting is pleasant enough but as the player depicted is in a posture that is outrightly condemned by Sor in his Methode I question if it is appropriate for inclusion in this particular article. Nor am I aware that Sor had siblings residing in France. I have made enquiries of Bridgeman Art Gallery for evidence in support of their claim, I await their reply. I doubt if it will amount to more than that Sor was contemporary and resided in France, which would hardly be convincing. RichardJ Christie (talk) 23:54, 25 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I understand about the posture. I agree Sor definitely would not have posed that way. However, I wouldn't say it's out of the question that the painter simply painted it how he wanted. As for the other person, I was assuming that it was his son (complete guess, I haven't even found a source saying he had a son). The guitarist in the painting certainly does resemble the other portrait of Sor. At any rate, I understand your hesitance to include the painting in this article. If Bridgeman Art gets back to you, let me know. If not, I would condone removal of the image. Jujutacular T · C 07:47, 26 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I have tried my best to get a good biography started. Most of my information is from the Brian Jeffry book, and some is from a couple of more articles. There certainly can be more information added, especially in the second section about Sor's trip to Moscow, his time in England, and some specific, important compositions Sor wrote while he was in each place. I divided Sor's life into these two stages from advice given in the Moser article, that the French invasion and his consequent banishment constituted a major shift in Sor's life, at about its halfway point. I also wanted to include some sort of Bibliography, and because it seemed to be more or less the same thing as the "Historical sources," I changed this to "Bibliography" and added some new sections. There is certainly room for more sources here, I am just hoping to get it started.--Ioismo (talk) 00:44, 16 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

This article is incomplete, covering only Sor's guitar work. He composed operas as well. One was performed in 1797-98, later lost, only rediscovered in the 20th century, and given a performance that was recorded in about 1999, I think. The opera was about Telemachus and Calypso. This opera is written up in Wikipedia, and either someone should write a complete biography of Sor or at least his other works (if any) that are featured in Wikip[edia should have links to the article. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Telemaco_nell%27isola_di_Calipso 131.243.223.113 (talk) 03:56, 23 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
