Did You Know
A fact from this article appeared on Wikipedia's Main Page in the "Did you know?" column on June 8, 2007.
The text of the entry was: Did you know ...that, after playing the solo for the disastrous premiere of Elgar's Cello Concerto, the English cellist Felix Salmond never taught the piece to his students, even though he taught cello in America for 18 years?

Verification needed on birth date[edit]

I got the birth date from his obituary, which said he died at age sixty-three. If anyone knows of an exact date of birth, that'd be great. --CA387 05:05, 3 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Added birth date from Grove. Grove disagrees on death date, though, saying 19 Feb... I can't see your source and unless you have Grove to hand or an online sub, you can't see mine! I'm inclined to go with yours as it's more contemporary. Bencherlite 14:29, 3 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Failed GA[edit]

At only four paragraphs, I have a hard time believing that it "addresses the major aspects of the topic". The lead also needs to be expanded to summarize the article. ShadowHalo 02:50, 10 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Elgar Concerto Reviews[edit]

Not all reviews of the premiere of the Elgar Cello Concerto were "scathing". In the Christian Science Monitor (Saturday, 13 December 1919), critic Marion Scott wrote: "Mr. Felix Salmond played the solo part with rare finish, refinement of style and consistency of characterization. It was more like the performance of some actor who completely merges himself in the part he plays than a virtuoso coming before an audience to exhibit his own abilities...while Mr. Salmond understood and acted upon it perfectly, one had the sense that the London Symphony Orchestra only partially apprehended their role in this work, fine as they are and well though they played."
