There's no reason for "Fear of Pop" and "Fear of Pop Volume 1" to be two different articles. "Fear of Pop" is not a band or grouping of musicians, it is a Ben Folds solo album.

"Fear of Pop Volume 1" is considered his first solo album and all the other musicians are merely guests. Folds' name appears nowhere on the cover or spine but that is either an example of creative crediting (such as the many other albums such as Led Zeppelin's fourth album) or it suggests that "Fear of Pop" is a psuedonym.

Totally disagree with this merge. It's ridiculous to merge a band and an album's entry because they've only released one album at this point in time. Nowhere, anywhere, EVER is it stated that Fear of Pop is a Ben Folds solo project. Period. If anything, it's a Caleb Southern/Ben Folds effort. I'm taking off the merge label, as it is unwarranted.

Here's the very first line from the official press release, as still found on Frank Maynard's website:

"Fear Of Pop is Ben Folds (Ben Folds Five) and Caleb Southern. Produced by Ben Folds and Caleb Southern, both of whom are from Chapel Hill, NC."

and then later:

"Fear Of Pop is the band, Volume I is the album."

Fear of Pop is the band. That's what it says on the spine of the record, that's what Folds has said in interviews and it's also what the press release says.

I've read nothing to make me think that Ben Folds is actually the running figure in the cover art. The packaging art for all of Volume I was done by David Bethell from his series "Just Your Average Second On This Planet" (1997-1998). This is according to the liner notes for the album. I, for one, seriously doubt Ben Folds posed for one of Bethell's images, and there is no citation in the article--looks like a simple opinion to me. Funkeboy 11:15, 27 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

"The track "Rubber Sled" is a humorous reference to Ben Folds Five bass player, Robert Sledge. A clip of Brick by Ben Folds Five is playing in the background at the beginning of this song, though played at twice its normal speed, and a sample of Folds yelling "Robert Sledge on the bass guitar!" can be heard approximately halfway through the song. "I Paid My Money" was at least almost a decade old at the time it was recorded in 1998. The original 1990 demo version featured Folds singing over an african-american choir."

This paragraph is in the article for the album, and is much more relevant to the album than to the band; plus, the less either of these articles duplicates from the other, the better. So, I'm taking it out. Funkeboy 00:33, 5 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Origin of project name[edit]

I can't find any references to support it, so I'm not editing the page, but I assume the project name is a reference to a quote from Green Gartside, of Scritti Politti, who said, "fear of pop is an infantile disorder--you should face up to it like a man."
