When is "whites only" not racist?[edit]

Hi User:NostinAdrek,

I am removing the NPOV tag because this country club refuses admission to non-whites which is the very definition of racist. This policy has been documented in an article in TIME magazine.

Please explain in this discussion page how you see whites-only as not being racist.

Thanks, Erxnmedia (talk) 02:41, 20 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Erxnmedia,

OK, I agree. My mistake.

Current membership policies?[edit]

Is there any evidence that the country club maintains a "whites-only" membership policy today? All of the references address events of the 1970s, yet the article claims the membership policy in the present tense. WildCowboy (talk) 16:41, 23 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

There's nothing on their website that says "oh, by the way, we stopped being racist in 1979." Most likely because they didn't. It's a big world out there. Thanks, Erxnmedia (talk) 19:24, 23 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
The lack of a statement is not evidence of a current racist policy, so I've edited the statement to reflect the historical context. Should you find a recent reference regarding the club's membership policies, feel free to include it. WildCowboy (talk) 06:55, 12 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

"servants"?[edit]

This "servants" euphemism avoids stating the plain fact that these individuals were being held against their will by the plantation owner. I changed it to "enslaved African American workers." And since the entry copiously documents the chain of title (although the documentation starts in 1745, omitting mention of its original Monacan stewards), it should be stated that by 1820, 112 residents of Farmington were enslaved by George Diver.
