English translation[edit]

I understand that someone has put in a lot of effort to translate one version of words to this march. But the translation is rather poor. I'm afraid most idioms which sound good in the original Russian become awkward and confusing in English ("alarm touched my temples," "dear glance, forgive-farewell," "a breathe is wafting from the the marching regiments").

Do we really need a translation, if it's becomes so confounding and un-heartfelt in English? 97.125.50.92 (talk) 02:43, 26 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I agree, I'd smooth out the English myself, but since I don't know Russian and don't quite understand the idioms, I'm afraid I'd somehow be doing it wrong. Perhaps someone with native fluency in both languages could help. 67.190.234.202 (talk) 12:04, 14 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

On the Romanized Russian script[edit]

Hello,

It appears that this has been a recurring problem on a number of famous songs in the Russian language, particularly anthems and military pieces.

Please be aware that as of current, while there is no consensus on what romanization system the English Wikipedia uses for Russian, there is also no other place here which uses the scientific system for transliterating Russian. It is more difficult to read for the average reader of the English Wikipedia and as a result is counter-productive to the information it is trying to convey.

I would like to get a discussion started on this at some point, but I would respectfully ask that we maintain the de facto standard romanization system the English Wikipedia has been using.
