Cleanup[edit]

To be honest, I think this article could use a cleanup of some sort. It's not very well wikified and may contain original research, and isn't well cited. I may attempt this.--HisSpaceResearch 12:02, 16 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Harry Ovenall[edit]

The band's first drummer, he probably wouldn't pass Wikipedia's notability criteria but guess what I found? His eBay page... http://cgi3.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewUserPage&userid=binhamhead --h i s s p a c e r e s e a r c h 12:21, 5 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I have seriously improved this article[edit]

I'm aiming to rephrase most of the 'History' section and reference the rest of it. After that, I plan to write a section dedicated specifically to the sound of the band's music, and influences/who they influenced. After that, I will nominate it for good article status.-h i s s p a c e r e s e a r c h 14:16, 5 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

All of that is done, article is now a GA nominee.-h i s s p a c e r e s e a r c h 14:12, 6 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use of photographs[edit]

I would like to add a few of these photos to illustrate the article, but I will not do that just yet as I am unsure if these violate the fair use rationale.--h i s s p a c e r e s e a r c h 14:41, 6 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

GA[edit]

  • The picture in the infobox meets the fair use criteria but a detailed fair use rationale is required. See Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline
  • Please expand the lead to two paragraphs
  • When you have several references at the end of a sentence, put them in numerical order [3][1][5] -> [1][3][5]
  • Their style has been characterised as progressive rock, although this may be a misnomer as their sound often had little in common with that genre - i don't get this, you say they're progressive rock then it has their music has little to do with prog rock...? Remove the "although" sentence keeping the other elements as it currently seems like WP:OR
  • [1] looks like an unreliable source, as does [2][3] The AOL references are a personal website thus unreliable
  • References are missing some details such as publisher and last access date. {{cite web}} can help with this (see Slayer click edit and how to fill out the template) or simply add the publisher and access into the current format (make sure the publisher isn't in the title like it currently is).
  • Family began in 1967 in - you mean formed?
  • An ebay reference? [4]
  • Family played a small number of new gigs in the United States, which were slightly more successful than their first, appearing in San Francisco and Boston. this doesn't make much sense
  • Family's new lineup played at major rock festivals that summer, including the Kralingen Festival in the Netherlands and the Isle of Wight Festival for the second year in a row,[6] the band appearing in the documentary film Message to Love about the latter festival. The last part of the sentence doesn't "flow" with the rest
  • 13 October 1973 -> October 13, 1973 date formatting

The biggest problem is the references, the AOL sites are personal websites, it's a page created by a user and it could contain inaccurate information. If you disagree with the review you can list it at WP:GAR or if you need further clarification give me a message. You should also list the article for a peer review, here Wikipedia:WikiProject Biography/Peer review wait a few days and get some feedback on how to improve the article. One point: technically, no, I didn't mean that Family "formed" in 1967. They existed before that as The Farinas.-h i s s p a c e r e s e a r c h 16:16, 24 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I'll use strikethrough to show the things that have been done already from your list to improve the article.-h i s s p a c e r e s e a r c h 16:20, 24 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
All done, except the references problem. I won't do cite web or put the references in order just yet, as these many change anyway in light of the problems that exist with the sources. I've put it up for peer review.-h i s s p a c e r e s e a r c h 13:55, 1 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

"Old Songs, New Songs", and the Mellotron on "...Doll's House"[edit]

According to the "NME Encyclopaedia of Rock", Family released "Old Songs, New Songs" as an excuse to re-record some old songs (no pun intended!) as they felt that the original production and/or mixing on these songs left a lot to be desired. Certainly, the single version of "The Weavers Answer" is different (and better, in my view) to the original album version.

Dave Mason is credited as playing Mellotron on "Music in a Doll's House". What is the source of this information? www.planetmellotron (a.k.a. Andy Thompson) also has it down as Mason, but it/he isn't 100% sure, as there are NO credits for keyboards on the album sleeve, let alone Mellotron. Admittedly, it's a toss-up between Mason (who's more of a guitarist) and Stevie Winwood, but I'd love to know where this info came from, which I intend passing on to Mr Thompson.

2013 Reunion Gigs[edit]

Apart from the four former band members, were they augmented by other musicians, such as a guitarist ? If so, can this information be added. RGCorris (talk) 10:03, 7 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Removed Text[edit]

I removed this portion of text from the reunion section: "whom he invited to come back (from Greece) to enjoy the English rain...a celebratory concert, rich in memories for all, and introduced by longtime friend of the band and local Leicester hero, the former footballer Frank Worthington."

It appears to be a quote. As there was no punctuation to indicate this nor citation for the quote, I removed it and placed it here awaiting proper citation. Also, the sentence is quite disjointed as a whole and needs a rewrite to add some cohesion.THX1136 (talk) 14:19, 22 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Can someone name the people in the picture in a less ambiguous way[edit]

Hi, can someone name the people in the picture in a less ambiguous way? "Left to right" doesn't make much sense when there are two guys directly behind two other guys. How about clockwise from upper left and then center? I dunno, it could be any scheme, as long as it's obvious. Thanks for your help! 216.161.55.95 (talk) 05:01, 28 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
