Churches[edit]

Many editors hate gallieries and remove them as soon as they see them; they prefer images be left in the commons categories. Although in this case a gallery might actually be warranted. However, there is quite a bit of material readily available for St Mary's, it is after all over 500 years old:) I'd do it myself but not sure I will get time while away for a bit. If it is not done by the time I get back I will take it on but that will be several months. Similarly, I am suprised the section on the Air Tattoo isn't more informative. It might be of interest to know that a cleric at about 1700, tired of the drunken and noisy revelries of the bell ringers had the floor or their room removed so that the bells were rung from the area between the choir pews, where he could observe the ringers and their conduct. It is one of the longest drops in England and those who equip themselves with binoculars will observe the bell ringer's graffiti from 350 years ago still on the walls of the tower at some height. Indeed, there was detail of the amorous activities of a young lady whose name I shall forbore from mentioning because her descendants still live in the area. As an aside one of the stained glass windows could not be made inexpensively with modern technology, AIUI. It consists of a large section of green glass cut with a circular hole into which is let a round piece of red glass as an apple. Bear in mind the windows date from the 16th century, the round hole is something of an achievement, but the absence of cracking after these years in amazing.Drg40 (talk) 16:38, 12 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Cotswolds[edit]

To be horribly pedantic, Fairford isn't in the Cotswolds, from the local geology it lies on the Upper Thames Flood Plain. Which is why the water table is so high and there is so much gravel be found round about. The true Cotswolds start about a mile outside Fairford on the slow rise northerly towards Quennington. It also why the land around Fairford is generally flatter than to the North, where the Cotteswoldes are to be found, and the winter weather is generally just a little kinder than up on the Wolds where the winter winds can be bitter. It has not been that uncommon for the pattern of snowfall to be strikingly different in Fairford compared to that as close as Coln St Alwyn, say, and much lighter than in Stow.Drg40 (talk) 12:31, 20 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

"Flowers to Fairford"[edit]

I see from the Victoria County History that Fairford was a well-established borough by the twelfth century. I was wondering why, from eight centuries of history, only one "Event" (in fact relating to another article altogether) has found its way into the piece.
