Translation[edit]

This article seems to have been translated from German. This would explain the explicit reference to the German show "Wetten das" and the following sentence: "Some of the members include German broadcasters ARD and ZDF as well as Austrian broadcaster ORF." first eurovision broadcast?[edit]

In the article it says:

The first official broadcast was transmitted on June 6, 1954. It showed the Narzissenfest in Montreux.

what is the source of this information?? I have a book by Philips (one of the major contributors to the technical innovations required for eurovision broadcasting) that states the first 'official' eurovision broadcast was the crowning of Queen Elisabeth of the UK, which happened in 1953, and that some tests were done earlier still. details for dates: On 27th August 1950, the BBC made the first experimental international television transmission from Calais in northern France to England. This involved setting up a temporary microwave link across the English Channel from Calais to Dover. A two-way programme exchange between London and Paris took place from 8th to 14th July 1952, which necessitated standards conversion between the French 819-line television system and the British 405-line system. On 2nd June 1953, the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II was relayed live from London to France, The Netherlands and Germany. This provoked much interest in the possibilities for international television and, on 6th June 1954, the first officially-designated Eurovision transmission (the Narcissus Festival) took place between Montreux (Switzerland) and France, Italy, Germany, The Netherlands, Denmark and the United Kingdom. from The technical history of Eurovision by Brian Flowers see http://up.ebu.ch/en/technical/trev/trev_index-eurovision.html
