Merge from Beoir article[edit]

Hi Northamerica1000. The merge tag added to the Beoir signposts to this talk page. But no merge proposal has been opened/created here. As is the typical "step 1" in proposing a merger. What's the proposal? Merge just the context? Merge and redirect? What rationale are we considering? Thanks. Guliolopez (talk) 15:41, 17 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Beoir was proposed for deletion, which I deprodded and suggested merging to here, to retain functional information. It only consists of four sentences, so there isn't much. At the very least, verified content can be merged to this article. After full merges occur, a redirect is typically put into place. North America1000 16:13, 17 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks Northamerica1000. While I'm happy to support a merge, I'm not particularly in favour of leaving a redirect. While redirects are cheap and redirects are often alternatives to deletion, in this case I don't think it's appropriate. To my eye (and ear), the primary topic for "Beoir" is not the small consumer group (or their website). Beoir is, primarily, the Irish word for beer (hence the group's selection of that word). And also the Shelta word for woman. If the title, Beoir, is retained, I don't think it should presume that the org is the primary topic. To my mind, and as noted, there are insufficient sources to confirm that the subject is sufficiently notable to be a primary topic for an otherwise common noun. @Guliolopez: That makes sense. After a merge, then Beoir could be redirected to Beer, since it appears that this is the most common usage of the term. North America1000 19:58, 19 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Northamerica1000.
RE: Merge. Agreed. I imagine that the two cited sentences at the Beoir article could easily be merged here. Perhaps to the "history" section.
RE: Redirect. I don't agree personally. Such a redirect would (to my understanding) conflict with WP:RFOREIGN and WP:RFD#D8 (as a "redirect in a language other than English to a page whose subject is unrelated to that language"). Personally I think the title should be deleted. Whether under AfD. Now. Or (if redirected) under RfD.
Cheers. Guliolopez (talk) 15:40, 28 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Northamerica1000. It's been a little while, and I didn't hear back on the above, so I have gone ahead with the merge from the Beoir article/title. As there seemed to be agreement on that. But have not left a redirect (to either this article or the beer article). As there didn't seem to be agreement that either was a WP:PRIMARYTOPIC or appropriate target. Instead I have made it a DAB page. Granted a less than perfect one. But based somewhat on Bier (disambiguation) and Pomme and other DAB pages which deal with words with meanings in other languages. If needed, and in particular if you don't agree that this is a reasonable solution/compromise, can always continue the discussion at Talk:Beoir. Thanks! @Guliolopez: Nice work. I'm perfectly fine with the dab page you created. Thanks. North America1000 21:36, 7 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
