Citations and Future Directions based on Literature[edit]

I found that this article had the same core content and had no references and had been flagged since 2014. There does not seem to be much literature that talks about the function of escutcheons, even behind academic paywalls. There is significant content on the form however, with plenty of articles out there about escutcheons from various Western European societies in the latter half of the second millennium, both from design/museum sources and at least one from archaeology. Inserting a few links in case someone wants to expand on the stub. I'd do so myself, but don't have much of an eye for what is relevant in this field (these may be paywalled or incomplete).
