Untitled[edit]

After visiting myself last year, it is my understanding that Ercolano (Herculaneum) was actually buried under the lava flow from Mt Vesuvius. The boat houses once on the sea and where bodies were found attempting to escape, now face a high, thick wall. The sea is no longer visible from the town itself. The town was much better preserved than even Pompeii because of the denseness of the lava rock. The wooden door frames were blackened as the hot lava touched them, and can be seen there today. There were skeletal remains, which was not true of Pompeii, which suffered a pyroclastic blast/flow. Bevridge 22:25, 2 March 2007 (UTC)bevridge[reply]
