Online version[edit]

Does anyone know if there's a way to get an electronic version of the Encyclopedia of Mormonism, either through a subscriptions service (like gospelink) or on a CD, or even through BYU's library or something? Thanks. --Tangobob 18:58, 9 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It's available on LDS Library 2006. My understanding is that it's available on the current GospeLink subscription web site, but I can't seem to find a list of titles.

You can also get much of the content online for free through BYU Studies LDS FAQ and the All About Mormons web page.--MrWhipple 05:10, 10 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

"no dedicated theological scholars"[edit]

Text says:

Most of the articles are written by Ph.D.s in their respective fields. This is remarkable given that the LDS Church is led by an unpaid lay clergy and thus has no dedicated theological scholars

What about BYU faculty? I am sure some of them could be counted as "dedicated theological scholars"... see e.g. this page http://religion.byu.edu/faculty.htm And I should note that in most Christian groups (Catholic, Protestant, etc.), "dedicated theological scholars" tend to be attached to church-linked higher educational institutions (seminaries, universities, etc.), rather than being in the hierarchy, so I don't see how here LDS are really that different from most other denominations in terms of theological scholarship... Hence I will delete the "Thi is remarkable..." --SJK 07:02, 7 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I think what may have made up the assertion is that BYU is primarily a teaching institution. Even Hugh Nibley was required to teach several classes a year.
