Why is this protected[edit]

Why is this page protected against creation? There are 35 incoming links. It's listed in the Catholic Encyclopedia, here. How can the Catholic Encyclopedia be more inclusive than Wikipedia? - Crosbiesmith 09:34, 18 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I completely agree. I was working on Emmanuel College, Boston and I wanted to do a link to the meaning of Emmanuel (since it's on the logo of the school in Hebrew) and this is what I found. Strange. I'm bringing this up at deletion review. --Bobak 00:40, 29 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Great: after a deletion review, it's been restored as a redirect to Immanuel (עמנואל). Problem solved. --Bobak 01:40, 29 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Emmanuel is the best person in the world. His favorite number is 14. his favorite football team is the Eagles. They are the BEST!!!!

Redirect to Emmanuel (disambiguation). uKER (talk) 17:52, 6 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Not done but, @UKER: I've reduced the protection on this page from full to semi and you should be able to edit it directly now. Please keep in mind this page was a subject of deletion and DRV in the past, so it may be somewhat contentious as to its target. — xaosflux Talk 20:40, 6 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Well, there's only one way to find out I guess. Thanks! --uKER (talk) 00:23, 7 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Titles, redirects and links[edit]

@UKER: We should probably look again at the titles, redirects and links of this set of articles. Emmanuel is now a disambiguation page with dozens of incoming links needing to be fixed. Emanuel (one M) redirects to malplaced dab Emanuel (disambiguation). Immanuel redirects to Immanuel (biblical character), which is unnecessary disambiguation. Certes (talk) 11:38, 7 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Xaosflux: I want to sort things out without contradicting any consensus. Do you have links to past discussions about Emmanuel and related titles? All I can find is this 2006 DRV and this 2007 talk. Thanks, Certes (talk) 11:38, 7 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I'd suggest restore status quo and establishing consensus for the changes. Certainly should not have been done as uncontroversial technical request. olderwiser 12:43, 7 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Certes, Bkonrad, and UKER: The prior discussions linked are quite old and didn't get very far in to the consensus building process for where the redirect should go (noting that DRV is not meant to be an editorial forum). WP:BRD is really the way to deal with this right now, so suggest restoring back to redirect to Immanuel (which already has a top note to the disambig), then discussing. — xaosflux Talk 12:57, 7 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Well, I had another go at sorting this thing out yesterday, and it seems like most of it went well, but there's this thing that keeps bugging me about this particular redirect. Why would it be that there being all this stuff actually called Emmanuel, Emmanuel has to be a redirect to some other article that is NOT CALLED EMMANUEL? --uKER (talk) 19:26, 19 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
The primary topic is known by both names, pretty much interchangeably. olderwiser 23:25, 19 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Emmanuel is a primary redirect. Another good example is Christ. That word can mean other things but there is a clear primary topic. Our article on that topic is Jesus, so we redirect Christ there and have a hatnote to the disambiguation page which lists the other, less common meanings of "Christ".
