Name[edit]

Her birth name was not Sayyida Salme but Salama bint Said (cf the image legend of the English edition of her memoirs of 1907: "THE AUTHORESS Salamah bint Said, afterward Emily Ruete". Sayyida is a title for women of high status , Salme is a nickname for Salama (ar. سلامة , transcribed with or without final h), and that is how her father called her. Birth[edit]

She was the youngest of the 36 children of Said bin Sultan. If she was indeed born in 1844, that does not seem right - there are several on the list of 36 at Said bin Sultan born later than that (and many without birth year). Davidships (talk) 07:48, 7 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
