How many seasons?[edit]

The introduction says it ran for five seasons, but the sections on Adam and Anita say they appeared in the sixth season. Which is correct? KeithD (talk) 13:43, 3 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I think the references to a sixth season are incorrect. Dbart 5 December 2005

Agreed. Also, I don't believe Holly reappeared in Series 5, I think the confusion has arisen because of another character called Holly, the daughter of Ellen's girlfriend Laurie.

Region 2 DVDs[edit]

Has something been announced about Region 2 Ellen DVDs, specifically Season 4 (which has no "N/A" accompanying)? Just thought I'd asked whether they were being released in Europe area.

Original title?[edit]

The article mentions that the series aired under the name "These Friends Of Mine" in season one, but I also remember that the pilot first aired in March of '94, the series was listed as "Buy The Book" in the listings. I'm not sure how to confirm that though, and imdb makes no mention of either early name. I don't suppose anybody out there collected TV Guides in the mid-90s? :) --guru 21:43, 10 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

POV[edit]

Just a brief note here. This article is full of hyperbolic characterizations ("timid brass", "undeniable" comic ability, and so on). I altered those that I encountered in the first paragraph, but a quick skim of the rest reveals a lot more work to be done. Remember to keep articles unbiased and objective - there are plenty of other places on the web to give melodramatic overviews of a favorite show. --70.108.116.231 20:44, 23 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It seems as though you have removed the most of it... i put down one cn and besides that i dont believe there is enough POV to really put up a notice on this... it seemed rather objective at this point. Flying Hamster 04:53, 21 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Help wanted[edit]

Yo, I just rewrote List of Ellen episodes, but I haven't actually seen any eps, so I'm constructing summaries from several different episodes guides on the net. If anyone could look over them and make sure they're okay, or even write a few yourself, I would be grateful. Thankyou. Dev920 (Have a nice day!) 10:18, 24 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:Ellen S4.jpg[edit]

Image:Ellen S4.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Looking for help writing an article about the spin-offs and crossovers of this series[edit]

I am writing an article about all of the series which are in the same shared reality as this one through spin-offs and crossovers. I could use a little help expanding the article since it is currently extremely dense and a bit jumbled with some sentence structures being extremely repetitive. I would like to be able to put this article into article space soon. Any and all help in writing the article would be appreciated, even a comment or two on the talk page would help. Please give it a read through, also please do not comment here since I do not have all of the series on my watch list. - LA @ 16:36, 16 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

"Coming out episode" section[edit]

I deleted the sentence that read "while Ellen continued breaking ground and winning awards", which was in reference to episodes that came after the "coming out" episode. Saying that those episodes were "ground breaking" is a personal point of view, and stating that the show "continued winning awards" after that episode is not only unsourced, but probably untrue. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Vivify (talkcontribs) 16:38, 12 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Misleading statement[edit]

The series is notable for being the first one in which the main character came out as gay, which DeGeneres' character did in the 1997 episode "Puppy Episode". (April 30, 1997)

This should read one of the first or second, because even though there wasn't as much attention or controversy, Amanda Bearse came out publicly during the episode "Lez Be Friends" (April 10, 1997)[1] on Married... with Children. So it could be open for debate. It needs to be re-worded to reflect while Ellen came out stating "i'm gay" as her character, that episode wasn't the first to get the message across. Here is an additional source (if the episode dates aren't enough) from GLBTQ: [2] According to some sources, Bearse came out before Rosie O'Donnell publicly (1993), just not on the TV show like Ellen did.[3] So my dispute is with "the first one" in the sentence. I didn't see it on "The Puppy Episode" article, although it may be. I also heard this on a TV show about the topic, which I didn't find the source for since I can't remember which program it was exactly (I think on VH1). I guess the argument would be is if Bearse was considered a "main character" on Married with Children. This cite from 1996 states Bearse wanted to be a "gay date" on Ellen if DeGeneres came out on the show.[4]

I'm typing this message here first to get a consensus before someone else or myself changes it to reflect she was "one of the first" or something other than "the first". Or change it to "lead character", etc. Thanks! P.s. It's "The Puppy Episode" not "Puppy Episode". 74.62.92.20 (talk) 17:22, 8 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

These Friends of Mine[edit]

I'm going to add a "citation needed" notation to this. The only source I can find for this is this article. People have posted on YouTube complete episodes from Season 1, taken from original broadcast, and there is no indication any of them carried "These Friends of Mine" as a title. 68.146.52.234 (talk) 13:04, 7 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

After posting this I found a review in Entertainment Weekly that did refer to the show by this title. But I still can't find an online source confirming that it ever aired under this title. As I said, someone's posted the first two episodes to Youtube and they appear to come from original broadcast not the DVDs, and both carry the Ellen titles. 68.146.52.234 (talk) 13:11, 7 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I distinctly remember watching this TV show (when it originally aired), and its title was indeed These Friends of Mine. The episodes that you are seeing may be from syndication and not from the original run. Often, when a series is syndicated, it will change its name and it will change its opening credits. That happens all the time. Joseph A. Spadaro (talk) 04:03, 23 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
