This article[edit]

This article was copied word-for-word from http://www.pensapedia.com/wiki/Elias_Durnford. While that wiki releases its work under GNU Free Documentation License 1.2 and thus this is not a copyright violation, Wikipedia does not normally just republish existing articles. Furthermore other wikis open to general editing are not considered reliable sources for use as refs, see WP:SPS. It is worth noting further that the refs given for the Pensapedia source article are both broken links to personal WP:SPS websites and thus even if they were still existent are not suitable refs. A search for refs has just turned up more webpages based on either this article or the Pensapedia one, with not much else besides casual mentions otherwise. Unless someone can provide even one reliable ref I think this article should be sent to WP:AFD as it has already been nominated for WP:PROD and had the tag removed. - Ahunt (talk) 11:45, 28 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Copyright violation text[edit]

I have removed all the text that was copied word for word by User:Isinbill into this article from Encyclopedia of Alabama and also from Durnford Enterprises. I could have taken the article to WP:CSD but I feel that this is a worthwhile topic, it just needs to be properly written without breaking any copyright laws. - Ahunt (talk) 13:51, 29 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Okay I have now re-written the article from scratch, using the copyright vio websites as refs and incorporated footnoting. - Ahunt (talk) 21:30, 19 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Last reissue[edit]

My last reissue of the article had a few changes: there were some paragraphs deleted (for lack of importance) or decreased in size and the article, although it seemed to their original sources, was explained with my words and was not copied "word for word ". Only a few paragraphs were a copy of the original sources, but it was not much of the article. My only intention was to do a complete article on Durnford, so I had to build on most of the things I read on those sources, but basically I tried to explain the item and you might find some differences between the two editions. This issue, nevertheless, was also eliminated. --Isinbill (talk) 11:06, 30 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Copyright violations and plagiarism must be scrupulously avoided in Wikipedia. Elías Durnford's life story is a worthwhile subject for an encyclopedia article and the refs cited are reliable and sufficient to create the article, but what you need to do is write all new text from the information provided in the refs, footnoting each paragraph to show where the information came from. Anyone can use information that has been published, but the exact text is copyrighted. The end result article should not have any sentences or phrases that are the same as the source references. This takes a bit more time to do, but results in a better article that doesn't violate any copyright laws. - Ahunt (talk) 11:51, 30 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Article name[edit]

Any reason why the article is Elías Durnford when it should be Elias Durnford ? MilborneOne (talk) 19:12, 30 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The Alabama Encyclopedia, Durnford.com and even the contemporary London Gazette spell his name Elias and not Elías. Unless anyone can show a reason to keep it as is, I think it ought to be moved. - Ahunt (talk) 14:31, 3 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Okay lacking any reasons to keep it where it is, I will move the article. - Ahunt (talk) 18:11, 19 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
