Bad Links[edit]

The last two links in the "External Links" section are dead. Can someone correct them? Thanks. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2602:306:33CB:3FC0:BD75:30DF:A804:F02A (talk) 04:11, 13 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I Left My Wallet in El Segundo[edit]

  • I don't know enough about New York geography to edit this myself, but the Tribe song begins with them leaving Brooklyn, so I've always assumed it was a different El Segundo that the narrator lost his wallet in. Clarification anyone? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.107.5.234 (talkcontribs) 07:08, 24 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
    • They actually sing about taking a long road trip to the west coast from New York to El Segundo and back, but when they get back to NYC, 'Tip' realizes that he left his wallet in El Segundo and has to go back. Snagglepuss 20:27, 6 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Mike Gordon was mayor in 2001[edit]

I have edited (removed) the quote about "Cindy L. the mayor in 2001" I have no idea where that came from. The late Mike Gordon was the mayor of El Segundo from late 1998 until early 2004. TWR, El Segundo resident. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.231.229.66 (talkcontribs) 16:02, 28 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • Mike Gordon's dead? Damn, I didn't know that :( I grew up in El Segundo so it comes as quite a shock. Fragrag 10:12, 11 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

NPOV and cities in the USA[edit]

As a resident and employee in El Segundo, I thought that this treatment of the city belongs at aboutus.org which is now led by the inventor of the wiki itself, Ward Cunningham of c2.com

The smoke stacks at Grand and Vista Del Mar must be THE tradmark image of El Segundo for any one living on that stretch of the coast from Playa del Mar south to Palo Verdes.

I have since moved to Gardena, CA a couple of miles east (inland). I do not know how to paint a pretty picture of Crenshaw Blvd between 105 and Man. Bch Blvd. in Gardena no matter how much I like El Camino College at the one end or the historic airport at the other. Well, the bus service is good if you can figure out which bus stop to stand at ... Will the bus east on Grand from El Segundo be cut by Metro as planned? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Grshiplett (talkcontribs) 10:28, 13 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Not encyclopedic[edit]

This article is around 75% waffle and what may be relevant in amongst it isn't cited. Needs an urgent clean up. Plutonium27 (talk) 01:52, 26 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Bill Fisher[edit]

Bill Fisher's name in the right-hand info box links to another Bill Fisher. You can see the City Council members' photo here: http://elsegundo.org/depts/elected/default.asp and that it is clearly a different person. Someon shoudl remove that link. 147.21.16.3 (talk) 23:35, 20 May 2008 (UTC)bmy[reply]

Oil Refinery[edit]

An article on El Segundo with two "skyline" photos but no photo of the refinery as seen from downtown along Grand Avenue is either fraud or fantasy - but surely not fact.

On the plus side: what about the space exploration startup that was there?

Best feature: the Ficus, Pepper, Eucalyptus, CA Plain, Naked and Banyan trees. Then there is the sewage plant and that big plant at the end of Grand which does just what with those tall smoke stacks?

Then there is the roar of old AA MD-80 thrust-reversers (not hi-bypass engines, but 1964-style JT8D low-bypass turbofan engines from Pratt & Whitney, first used on Boeing 727's) at LAX - should we update this town description if AA goes bust (currently in Chap 11) ? Those screaming roars on landing are an important feature of life in towns which wrap around LAX. Do we even report peak decibel levels for airport towns?

247 MD-80's (most common AA a/c) http://www.aa.com/i18n/amrcorp/corporateInformation/facts/fleet.jsp

FAA issues etc: American_Airlines (that article links to one giving 2020 as the year the replacement Boeing is available - an optimistic date).

Smog in the town from the asphalt refinery on the evenings when the breeze is not rising up from the shore? The asphalt tanker trucks which are such a feature of Sepulveda Blvd near Grand? The lack of transit service during off-peak hours and weekends in the town proper? But business-friendly it is ... G. Robert Shiplett 22:08, 8 December 2011 (UTC)

Street map[edit]

This may be useful for determing what is in El Segundo and what isn't!
