Position[edit]

He did, on a couple of occasions, receive a pass off a trick play fake field goal, but he certainly wasn't a "wide receiver" as the text states.

I believe that Herrera was the first place kicker to use a surprise punt by taking a direct snap in an apparent field goal formation. That particular Tom Landry innovation wouldn't have made any sense until the rule changes (1974?) that returned missed field goals to the line of scrimmage. Prior to that time, an unsuccessful FG that remained in play had to be returned in fashion similar to a punt, and there had been no particular advantage to giving up the FG attempt to use a punt instead.
